Independents are open to out candidates, poll indicates

About 70% of Independent voters say they could support an openly gay political candidate, while 8% say they would be more likely to support an out candidate, indicates research performed by Public Policy Polling done for HBO's "Real Time with Bill Maher.

Among Republicans, 53% said they would be less likely to vote for an openly gay candidate, 38% said it would make no difference and 9% said they would be more likely to support an out candidate.
