Virgina bill would ban anti-gay discrimination by adoption agencies

The Virginia Assembly is considering a measure that would prohibit state-funded adoption agencies from discriminating on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity, among other factors. The bill seeks to reverse regulations recently finalized by the state's Board of Social Services that would remove discrimination protections.

"Adoption is a public act that goes through state courts, and no government agent should engage in discrimination," said out state Sen. Adam Ebbin, D-Alexandria, the sponsor of the bill.
