Cheney explains reluctance to talk marriage in 2000 campaign

Former Vice President Dick Cheney recently said discussing his support for marriage rights for same-sex couples could have damaged George W. Bush's chances of winning the 2000 presidential campaign.

Ugh. Doesn't make him any less terrible, as far as I'm concerned. What about all the damage done to gay people and gay relationships in the meantime?
