ABC
News celebrated National Coming Out Day last week with this slideshow of 12 key developments in the fight for LGBT equality, from Dr. Frank Kameny’s
trailblazing activism in the 1950s to President Barack Obama’s
announcement that he supports marriage rights for same-sex couples.
Also
among the pioneering moments is the 1974 election of Kathy Kozachenko
to the Ann Arbor, Mich., City Council, which made her the first openly
LGBT candidate to win public office in America.
