Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains and Planned Parenthood of New Mexico
are excited to announce that the two affiliates are unifying to form a
more regional Planned Parenthood affiliate.
PPRM is a Planned Parenthood Federation of America affiliate that
operates health centers in Colorado, Southern Nevada, and Wyoming and
one health center in Farmington, NM. Now that PPNM is a part of PPRM, it
will adopt the Farmington health center. This means that PPNM now
operates six health centers in four cities (Albuquerque, Farmington, Rio
Rancho, and Santa Fe). PPNM will also continue to be known and do
business as Planned Parenthood of New Mexico—just as Planned Parenthood
of Southern Nevada and Planned Parenthood of Wyoming operate under the
PPRM parent name.
“The decision to unite was one that our Boards of Directors for both
affiliates knew was a smart decision and unanimously agreed upon. By
combining our forces, we are strengthening our mission in becoming a
stronger, more robust affiliate,” said PPRM President and CEO Vicki
Cowart. “Our affiliates also share a strong commitment to people—the
communities we serve, our patients, donors, activists, champions and
employees. We work hard to connect with the community as well as
employees who carry out the Planned Parenthood mission every day.”
PPRM was founded in 1916 and has operated a health center in Farmington
since 1980. PPNM has been operating in New Mexico since 1964. Combined,
the two entities see roughly 134,000 patients a year. PPRM is committed
to ensuring that the women and men of the New Mexico will continue to
have access to affordable and high-quality life-saving cancer
screenings, birth control, STD testing and treatment and much more. In
total, PPRM operates 34 health centers as it unifies with New Mexico.
Upon the unification, all services that are currently offered will
continue and major staffing changes are not anticipated. Additionally,
the affiliate’s headquarters will remain in its current location in
Denver, Colorado; Vicki Cowart will maintain the position of president
and CEO.
Both PPRM and PPNM have associated 501(c)4 political organizations to
conduct advocacy and electoral activities. As of Sept. 1, 2012, PPNM
Action Fund became part of the PPRM family, similar to Planned
Parenthood Votes Colorado (PPVC). PPNM Action Fund will continue as the
political advocacy arm for PPRM in New Mexico although will it soon
operate under a new name, Planned Parenthood Votes New Mexico.
