OUT on DVD and Blu-ray: Skyfall

Director Sam Mendes blew us all away with the latest installment of the Bond franchise, SKYFALL. Starring Daniel Craig as James Bond, SKYFALL dominated the worldwide box-office and has become the highest grossing film ever in the United Kingdom – Bond’s home country. Accolades continued with the recent announcement of eight BAFTA® [British Academy of Film and Television Arts] nominations and five Academy Award® nominations.

SKYFALL will be available on Blu-ray and DVD on February 12 across North America via Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment.

So let's take a look at why we already loved the director’s films including American Beauty, Revolutionary Road and Road to Perdition.

American Beauty
Sam Mendes made his directorial debut in1999 in the critically loved American Beauty. Written by Alan Ball, the film follows Lester Burnham and his family who lead a perfect life on the outside in their perfect neighborhood, except, inside Lester is slipping deeper into depression and becomes infatuated with one of his daughter’s friends. American Ball stars Kevin Spacey, Annette Bening, Thora Birch, Wes Bentley, Mena Suvari and Chris Cooper.

Road to Perdition
 Mendes followed American Beauty with the crime film Road to Perdition, which was based on a graphic novel of the same name. Paul Hanks plays the lead role of Michael Sullivan, a hitman who works Irish mob boss, John Rooney (as played by Paul Newman). However, when Sullivan’s son becomes a witness to one of his killings, Sullivan must act accordingly and outrun those who are now after him and his family.

Jarhead 
Released in 2005, Jarhead is based on US Marine Anthony Swofford’s 2003 memoir of the same name about his pre-Desert storm experience in Saudi Arabia and his time in Kuwait. Jake Gyllenhaal plays the lead role of Anthony Swofford.

Revolutionary Road

In 2008, Sam Mendes directed his then wife Kate Winslet, as one-half of married couple whose marriage is falling apart, in the film adaptation of Revolutionary Road. Winslet plays April Wheeler, who lives in Connecticut with her two young children and husband - Frank (as played by Leonardo DiCaprio). The film follows the personal struggles that Frank and April must come to terms with both individually and as a couple.

Away We Go
Written by husband-and-wife team Dave Eggers and Vendela Vida, the film stars John Krasinki and Maya Rudolph and tells the story of a young couple expecting their first child as they travel around the US to find the perfect place to start their family and the misadventures and assortments of relatives & friends they bump to along their way.
