LGBT
and Latino groups face a difficult road in their push for an
immigration reform package that includes a remedy for binational
same-sex couples, some observers say.
"If I were a Democratic Senate
aide and this [issue] was a discussion in our staff meeting, I would
tell our member that this is something you better be prepared to give
up," said Frank Gilliam, dean of the Luskin School of Public Affairs at
the University of California, Los Angeles.
Rep. Mike Honda, D-Calif. (pictured),
says any reform package must address the issue; "Otherwise, we can't
call it comprehensive."
