Same sex marriage opponent switches sides in Michigan

Chris Ward, a former Republican state representative in Michigan who was a leading advocate of the state's 2004 ban on same sex marriage, has changed his mind and now supports the freedom to marry for all citizens.

"I felt very bad that I would deny people the opportunity to be with the person they love for the rest of their lives," Ward tells the Lansing State Journal . "It was an inconsistency, an injustice."

"Changing Minds on Gay Marriage," by LSJ reporter Louise Knott Ahern, also features interviews with Chuck Perricone, former Speaker of the Michigan House of Representatives and Greg McNeilly, a former executive director of the Michigan Republican Party.  McNeilly is openly gay and is married to his partner, Doug Meeks
