September is Suicide Prevention Month in Colorado

In Colorado, suicide is the second leading cause of death for people ages 10 through 44, and in 2014, 1,058 people died by suicide in the state, the highest number ever.
Because the suicide rates in Colorado are so high (currently placing us 7th in the nation with highest rates), the Suicide Prevention Coalition of Colorado is highlighting a month of prevention activities throughout the state.

The Suicide Prevention Coalition of Colorado joins the International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP), the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Federation for Mental Health in hosting World Suicide Prevention Day on September 10th, 2015. In the U.S. we recognize National Suicide Prevention Week from September 7th -13th. This year’s theme for both awareness periods is “Preventing Suicide: Reaching Out and Saving Lives,” and will focus on raising awareness that suicide is a major preventable cause of premature death on a global level.
