Your
elected officials will soon be considering SB19-085, a crucial piece
of legislation aimed at addressing the pay gap in Colorado. We know
that pay equity is a real and persistent problem for LGBTQ Coloradans
and their families and it's time to level the playing field. It's time to let your elected officials know that you support equal pay for equal work.
Based
on data collected in our 2016 needs assessment, transgender
Coloradans, cisgender women, and LGBTQ people of color make less money
on average compared to heterosexual, cisgender white men.
SB19-085 works to address pay inequity by prohibiting employers from doing the following:
⇒ Seeking the wage rate history of a prospective employee
⇒ Relying on a prior wage rate to determine a wage rate
⇒ Discriminating or retaliating against a prospective an employee for failing to disclose the employee's wage rate history
⇒ Discharging or retaliating against an employee for actions by an employee asserting the rights established by the bill against an employer
