You're invited to the Equal Rights Colorado fundraiser

The Equal Rights Colorado house party fundraiser will be held this year on Thursday, May 21, 2009 in Denver at the home of Sue and Tim Damour.

The event will begin at 5:30 pm, with special guests and the presentation of the Michael Brewer Community Advocate Award to Morris Price Jr.

Equal Rights Colorado promotes equal rights for Colorado's GLBT people and their families through non-partisan state legislative advocacy. This year ERC supported HB 09-1260, which authorizes unmarried couples to enter into “Designated Beneficiary Agreements” to provide one another with many of the benefits and protections under Colorado law that automatically apply to married couples. Gov. Ritter signed this bill into law in April and it will take effect on July 1 of this year.

ERC also supported SB 09-088, which will allow state employees to enroll their domestic partners in group benefit plans, beginning with the open enrollment period next year. This is on the Governor’s desk awaiting signature. In previous years, ERC is proud to have led the charge to pass an inclusive ENDA, expanded hate crimes protections, second parent adoption and other prohibitions against discrimination targeting the GLBT community.
