It Gets Better: Sharon Needles

'RuPaul's Drag Race' season 4 winner Sharon Needles made an It Gets Better video and reminds us that we can take negativity and turn it around, into something as beautiful as she herself.

And don't forget that It Gets Better founder Dan Savage will be right here in Colorado on Wednesday, November 28 at Colorado College in Colorado Springs.

Dan Savage apologizes for remarks

Openly gay sex columnist Dan Savage apologized for using profanity in characterizing a walkout by some high school journalists who were upset by a speech in which Savage criticized Bible-based justifications for hatred and bullying of LGBT people. Savage later said he shouldn’t have called the protesters names, but rejected charges that he engaged in an anti-Christian tirade

“I did not attack Christianity. I attacked hypocrisy. My remarks can only be read as an attack on all Christians if you believe that all Christians are hypocrites. Which I don't believe,” Savage wrote.

It Gets Better: Who's the Hottest of Them All?

You love the message of Dan Savage's 'It Gets Better' campaign and it sure doesn't hurt that some of the messengers have been so easy on the eyes.

And now Gay.com wants to know which guy with an 'It Gets Better' video is the hottest of them all.

My vote goes to Mike Ruiz, middle of the left column. Dang, he's good-looking.

It Gets Better: Civil Rights Division at the U.S. Department of Justice

The Civil Rights Division today released a video addressing bullying and harassment of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender youth, and those who do not conform to gender stereotypes about male or female behavior or appearance. The video is the Division’s contribution to the national “It Gets Better” Project, in which gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender adults and straight allies tell youth that life gets better after high school.

The Civil Rights Division, and the entire Justice Department, is committed to ending bullying and harassment in schools, and the video highlights the Department’s authority to enforce federal laws that protect students from discrimination and harassment at school because of their race, national origin, disability, religion, and sex, including harassment based on nonconformity with gender stereotypes. The video also features Division employees who share their individual stories and personal messages that a better future awaits youth who may be experiencing bullying or harassment.

It Gets Better: Cheeks

Offering a flip to the fluffy fun of his Twitter series "Daily Doses" and new single, "They Call Me Cheeks," comes this insightful hello of a contribution to Dan Savage's "It Gets Better Project." It's all about perspective-and awareness-says Cheeks, who earlier this year took on Prop 8 apathy in the gay community in his bullseye "Don't Be A Dick" commentary.

It Gets Better: Kirk Montgomery

My buddy Kirk Montgomery of Denver's KUSA-Channel 9 has added his voice to Dan Savage's It Gets Better project in honor of the recent anti-gay bullying suicides. The video also shouts out suicide prevention resources like the amazing Rainbow Alley as well as an organization I wasn't familiar with called Second Wind. Kirk's awesome and I'm sure his message will provide many young gays with the encouragement they need to know that it does, indeed, get better. Thanks, Kirk!

It Gets Better: Kathleen Sebelius

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services today released a video message from Secretary Kathleen Sebelius telling lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) youth suffering from bullying and intolerance that they are not alone, and that it will get better.

The Secretary’s message is in response to the recent news of young people taking their own lives after being victims of bullying because they were gay or believed to be gay.

As Secretary Sebelius says in her video message, “Don’t let the bullies win and don’t let them cut your future short. We need you and your talents, and whether you feel it or not, lots of people do care about you. I promise you, it gets better. Today may seem dark. But tomorrow will be brighter. And so will the day after that….And the day after that. So be strong, be safe, and know that you are loved and supported.”

It Gets Better Project reaches 10 million views

Today, following the announcement that over 2,000 videos inspired by the It Gets Better Project have reached 10 million video views on ItGetsBetterProject.com and YouTube, the project’s founder, Dan Savage, is sending the organization's first email to encourage thousands of supporters to join a nationwide suicide prevention and anti-bullying effort by signing a pledge at ItGetsBetterProject.com.
The It Gets Better Project is more than just a collection of incredible and inspiring videos; it engages people in communities across America, from all different backgrounds to take action.
In the coming weeks and months, the It Gets Better Project will be calling on individuals from across the country, from all walks of life, no matter their sexual orientation, to take a stand against LGBT bullying and help to support suicide prevention services in our nation’s schools and communities.
Below is the full-text version of Dan Savage’s email announcing the campaign to supporters, including the pledge:

Subject: Making it Better Today

Dear Friends,

More than 2,000 videos, 10 million views, and emails from kids all over the country letting us know that they're watching and taking hope.
We can’t believe it.
Four weeks ago, Terry and I recorded the first It Gets Better Project video in the aftermath of the recent suicides of bullied gay teenagers across the country. We created a YouTube channel and invited other LGBT adults to share their stories with LGBT kids. We were worried that our video might be the only one on our "channel."
But 24 hours after we posted the first It Gets Better Project video to YouTube, six more videos popped up.  Two days later, there were a couple of dozen more. Within a week, there were 1,000. Now there are more than 2,000 videos that have been watched more than 10 million times.
These videos do not solve the bullying crisis in this country. It’s why I ask you today to join me in this nationwide grassroots campaign by signing our It Gets Better Project pledge:

Everyone deserves to be respected for who they are. I pledge to spread this message to my friends, family and neighbors. I'll speak up against hate and intolerance whenever I see it, at school and at work. I'll provide hope for lesbian, gay, bi, trans and other bullied teens by letting them know that "It Gets Better."
When a 15-year-old gay kid commits suicide, he's saying that he can't picture a future for himself with enough joy in it to compensate for the pain he's in now. By sharing our stories and our joy, LGBT adults and our allies are letting bullied and isolated LGBT kids know that there is hope—that things will get better for them, just as they got better for us. That they will know love and know joy.
The It Gets Better Project is not just a place where LGBT youth can view videos of role models, but it’s a place where our allies—straight people, religious people, friends and family members—can come together to stand up for the human rights of America’s youth.
