RuPaul's Drag Race Season Finale Shocker

According to Logo, in a move Tyra Banks wished she dreamed up,  "America's Next Drag Superstar" hopefuls Chad Michaels, Phi Phi O'Hara, Sharon Needles and millions of fervent fans were left on the edge of their seats as no winner was revealed on last night's season finale of "RuPaul's Drag Race."

I love me some 'RuPaul's Drag Race.' And while season two runner-up Raven was not my cup of tea (I was Team Tatianna all the way), she brought the drama, looked flawless doing it, and week after week she managed to give the judges what they were looking for.

Raven will be appearing tonight at Tracks for the very first stop on the nationwide RuPaul's Drag Race Tour and while I didn't have a chance to chat with her like I did with Tyra and Jujubee, I was able to email her a few questions and find out about her best and worst experiences on the show, the meanest thing she's ever done in real life, and what Tatianna was really like.

What did you hope to accomplish by appearing on 'RuPaul's Drag Race?'
Well first of all I wanted to win!!! But, I also wanted to prove that I am pretty fierce at my craft and can take my drag anywhere I want it to! I also wanted more than just Southern California to get a glimpse of what I do and make more fans of not just myself, but drag in general!!!

What were your best/worst moments/experiences doing the show?
The best would be getting to know a few of the other girls and making lifelong friendships with them and growing a stronger bond with Morgan! I also loved working with Stephan May who was my drag mother in the Golden Girls episode! He was such a delight and that was such a rewarding experience! The worst would have to be the eight hours in drag on heels in front of the judges waiting to hear the fate of yourself and the other girls...NOT SO FUN, but still worth it in the end!

Are you a villainess in real life like you were on the show?
Not at all! I am actually very sweet and down to earth. At the same though, when my opinion is asked ... be ready for it! I think confidence and the ability to speak your mind is always viewed as being a little bitchy!

What's the meanest thing you've ever said/did to somebody in real life?
UGH... I made smoothies once for myself and my brother and put a laxative in his! I know, that is so mean, but it is the meanest thing I have ever done!

What advice do you have for the queens of season three?
BE 100% PREPARED!!! Thicken your skin and remember that, whatever the outcome is, YOU are a drag superstar!!!

What was Tatianna really like? Do you think she would date me?
Well, she just might! I think you will have to take her on a date and find out what she is like!!!

With charm, uniqueness, nerve, and talent to spare, I thought the beautiful and intelligent Miss Jujubee was gonna walk away with the title on season two of 'RuPaul's Drag Race.'

Unfortunately, it turned out she had a bit of a tendency to choke during performances in front of the judges and that may have just been what allowed the stunning Tyra Sanchez to snatch the title for herself.

Jujubee is part of RuPaul's Drag Race Tour, kicking off tonight here in Denver at Tracks. We had a chance to chat recently about her experiences on the show, her new series 'Drag U,' and why you should vote for her in the NewNowNext Awards.

Jujubee! You should've won, girl. Do you hear that a lot?
You know, I do hear that a lot and I appreciate it but all of the girls have their fans and I can certainly understand why Tyra won.

So Jujubee. I love the show but after watching for two seasons I feel like I still have absolutely no idea what the judges are looking for in a winner. What do you think?
Honestly, I didn't know what they were looking for either. And there were like three episodes where I didn't even get judged so I never really was able to know exactly what to give them. I just know I didn't bring enough outfits.

Were you scrambling in the bottom of your rucksack at the end?
I had a few options left but they were all pretty slutty.

Slutty's good. You had a little bit of a tendency to choke onstage in front of the judges. What was up with that?
You know, those were just moments of me being a big bundle of nerves.

Looking back is there anything you would have changed or done differently? 
Honestly I wouldn't have changed anything except maybe for packing a little bit more.


How long did you end up filming?
The top three were there right about a month. I lost like 20 pounds and didn't even realize it until I got home.

That's hot. All the magazines say that thin is in. So did you love the experience?
It was absolutely the best experience of my life. I went in there knowing what I was going to do. I knew it was a competition but I also knew it was a TV show.

You definitely brought the interest and the drama, as did Raven. You were the two who seemed to realize the importance of providing narrative thrust and dramatic interest.
I had to get my airtime, honey. Raven and I had the same idea going in. It would have been nice to win but we also really had an eye towards the longevity of our careers.

How long before you're sick of traveling and doing shows?
Never. This is what I have always wanted. I never even cared if anybody liked what I was doing as long as I was onstage.

You're part of the cast of this summer's 'Drag U.' What can we expect to see on the show?
I'm one of the professors of Drag U and what I can tell you is that we have professors from 'RuPaul's Drag Race' season one and season two who work together to help out women who have kind of lost their groove in life.

What lesson can a grooveless woman learn from a fabulous drag queen like yourself?
You know what? I do drag because I feel it empowers women. In our society women are looked at as weak and frail and I see them as being stronger than anything in the world and that's what informs my drag. Women are powerful.

I would also tell people not to take anything too seriously. Like Ru says, "what people think of you is none of your business." It all comes down to liking yourself and entertaining yourself.

RuPaul's Drag Race Tour kicks off here in Denver at Tracks. Why should people come see the show?
They need to come see Miss Tyra, Miss Raven, and Miss Juju! I've never been to Denver and I want it to be so fierce that I can't wait to come back and I know you guys can do that. I talk to Nina Flowers all the time and she says the people in Denver are so friendly and so fierce. And this tour is gonna be fierce, honey. We're gonna mix it up.

I really did think you were going to win but I was really into Tatianna. Are you guys still friends?
We are! I love Tati. She's like my little brother. And then there's Raven ... 

And then, like Maude, there's Raven.
He's like my soulmate. He's great, but people don't see that because he was portrayed as the villain this season like Chanel was the first season.

Chanel got robbed! But Raven I didn't like. It's weird because, while that feels like an appropriate thing to say about a TV character, it doesn't feel like an appropriate thing to say about a real person. In any case, she did make for good TV and maybe a more pleasant person wouldn't have.
And also, sometimes the ones that seem the most pleasant aren't.

Name names!
I can't! You'll have to find out in my upcoming book! It's gonna be a picture book with recipes for cocktails and things.

What's your cocktail of choice?
Absolute Berry Acai, of course. I like it with a little club soda.

RuPaul's Drag Race Tour: Raven bailed on me so please enjoy a taste of Tatianna

This blog posting was supposed to be an interview with 'RuPaul's Drag Race' contestant/villainess Raven.

Raven is coming to Tracks in Denver tomorrow night as part of the RuPaul's Drag Race tour.

However, at the very last possible second Raven claimed to be sick and unable to do the interview.

Thanks a lot, Raven. I could have gone to visit my sick great-grandmother in the hospital instead of sitting around waiting on you.

Jut kidding. My great-grandmother's dead.

Anyway, since Raven bailed on me I decided to use this space to post pictures of Raven's much younger, and significantly more beautiful, arch-rival from the show, Tatianna.

RuPaul's Drag Race Tour kicks off here in Denver Friday, May 14 at Tracks. I had a chance recently to catch up with the stunningly beautiful Tyra Sanchez (emphasis on the "chez") to talk about headlining the show, her advice for drag queens who would like to follow in her footsteps, and just what exactly is so cool about Beyonce anyway.

Congratulations on winning ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race.’ Were you nervous going into the final judging or did you think you had it in the bag?
I think it was a little bit of both. I was a little bit nervous but I also felt like I had been doing good all season. I was pretty sure I was going to win but you never knew what the judges were going to do.


What do you think they were looking for and what did they like about you?
Well, I would say that the judges were definitely looking for someone with charisma, uniqueness, nerve, and talent and I showed all of those qualities.

And it couldn’t have hurt that you happen to so gorgeous.
I think it played a part but it wasn’t actually something that was talked about a lot. Pretty much the only time it was mentioned was when Martha Wash was there. I never really heard from the judges that they thought anything about it.


Were you a fan of the first season of ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race?’
I was. I was a big fan of Rebecca Glasscock and I really understood where she was coming from with everybody thinking she was a bitch just because she was quiet.

What did you hope to accomplish by being on the show?
I actually wasn’t going to audition but a friend pushed me into it and I’m glad he did. I was hoping it would help with my problems but I wasn’t expecting it to solve all of them. It actually has helped out financially and that was really the biggest problem I had.

When did you start doing drag and why?
I started drag probably around 2007. I think my interest was just to imitate Beyonce and wear the same wigs and clothes and things as her.

What’s so cool about Beyonce?
Her performance and her effort. She gives 100 percent in her shows and everything she does and I try to do the same.

RuPaul's Drag Race Tour is kicking off here in Denver. Are you excited?
I can’t wait to be there. Anybody that comes to the show can definitely expect to see some drag. Big drag. Dramatic drag. It’s going to be a fun time and everybody will enjoy themselves. It will be hot.

In a nutshell, how would you describe what the show was like for you?
There was a lot of cattiness, lot of big personalities, and a lot of good drag.




Looking back, is there anything you would have changed or done differently?
I wouldn’t have changed anything. I think I did everything right because I won.


What would you say were your best and worst moments on the show?
My best moment was in the country commercial challenge because it was acting and I love acting. And my runway, with the changing of the clothes, rocked the judges.

The worst moment, but one of my favorites, was the rocker chick challenge. It was the worst because the judges didn’t like it, but it was my favorite because I really liked it and the audience was into it and screaming for me.

And you were safe no matter what you did because you had immunity.
Yeah, no matter what I did, I was safe and that was nice.

Any advice for the girls coming up on season three?
They should remain true to themselves but still do whatever the judges ask them to do as far as challenges. They just have to make sure their personalities always shine through.

RuPaul's Drag Race Tour kicks off in Denver

After a season of divas, drama and drag, the gentlemen have cooled their engines – and the best woman won.

Tyra Sanchez (below left) clawed her way to the title of “America’s Next Drag Superstar" and captured the crown during the finale of the second season of “RuPaul’s Drag Race." Now, Logo and ABSOLUT vodka are ready to sashay across the country with America’s self-proclaimed sweetheart headlining the 'RuPaul's Drag Race Tour' beginning right here in Denver on May 14 at Tracks.

The “other” Tyra, as the judges referred to her, edged out runners-up Raven (above middle) and Jujubee (above right) with her charisma, uniqueness, nerve and talent. Along with the title, Tyra received a $25,000 cash prize, courtesy of ABSOLUT and Logo, and will get a true taste of fame while headlining at top venues across the nation.

Ratings for season two finale of RuPaul's Drag Race biggest ever for Logo

Monday night’s season two finale of 'RuPaul’s Drag Race' snatched the crown as Logo’s highest-rated telecast. This was also Logo’s most watched telecast ever, drawing in 633,000 total viewers who witnessed Tyra Sanchez as she was named “America’s Next Drag Superstar.”

Additionally, 'RuPaul’s Drag Race' has become the most streamed series ever on LogoTV.com with more than 9.8 million video streams season-to-date.

“‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ has consistently shown that even underdogs can be champions,” said Dave Mace, Senior Vice President, Original Programming, Logo. “And today, this ‘little-show-that-could’ has become a national and GLAAD Media Award-winning phenomenon.”

Randy Barbato, Fenton Bailey and Tom Campbell, Executive Producers from WOW Productions collectively commented, "In our 500 years in show business, it's hard to remember a series that has stirred such a deep and passionate following. Fresh off the heels of the second season success, Logo announced the season three pickup of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” as well as the second season pickup of “Untucked.” “RuPaul’s Drag Race” order has been upped from 12 to 16 episodes and “Untucked” from 10 to 13 episodes.
