Denver ELEMENT and Tracks Join Forces for The Red Party

The Denver ELEMENT and Tracks Nightclub are partnering to throw The Red Party this Friday, December 13.

Conceived as a dance party to celebrate how far the gay community has come in the fight
against AIDS, the fabulous DJ Nina Flowers will be providing the music for The Red Party and you will be providing the positive energy and your very finest ropa de color rojo (that means you should wear red clothes).

“We’ve made some really great advances but the epidemic is not yet over,” said ELEMENT’s Steve D’ascoli. “Red Party is a celebration for everybody to come out and show their support and celebrate how much we’ve accomplished. And all the funds raised will go to Denver ELEMENT and our programs.”

Part of The Mile High Council on Behavioral Health, Denver ELEMENT provides programs and services for Denver-based men who love men. Denver Pique is a social group for 18-24 year olds, Positive Impact is an intervention for gay, HIV-positive injection drug users, and Mile High Recovery Project is a substance abuse treatment program for gay men.

Denver New Year's Eve 2011: NYE at Tracks

You want things to do in Denver when you're gay and it's New Year's Eve? You got it!

Check out NYE at Tracks with DJ Roland Belmares and Miss Nina Flowers.

I find Tracks a way more appealing place to be now that they've remodeled a bit and opened the place up. No longer do you feel like you're constantly in danger of dying in a Cocoanut Grove type incident.

Getting his GRINDER on tonight at Tracks: A conversation with DJ Jerry Bonham

DJ Jerry Bonham brings his legendary progressive music style to Grinder tonight at Tracks. I had the chance to catch up with him and find out about how musical styles have changed over his three decades as a DJ, what he likes about Denver audiences, and what readers of MileHighGayGuy.com can expect from tonight's party.

Drew: You're known as a "progressive" music DJ. How has progressive music changed over the three decades you've been in the scene?
DJ Jerry Bonham: When I started DJing in 1976, there was no such label for music as "progressive," however I think that there are definitely some progressive sounding songs from my early years as a DJ.

An obvious one would be "I Feel Love." Imagine hearing that for the first time. It sounded like no other song in the world - brilliant and groundbreaking.

How would you define progressive music?
Progressive music to me is music that has an emotional pull to it. It's a combination of the best of several genres of house, electronica and trance.

Why should everybody come to Grinder this Friday at Tracks?
Grinder is offering something a little different musically for the night. It's going to be fun.

You've worked Denver before, what's your favorite thing about Denver audiences?
Denver is very friendly. It has always been one of my favorite places to play. It's one of the reasons I moved here. I'm looking forward to connecting again this Friday.

Do you use Grindr? What's your most interesting Grindr experience?
I don't use Grindr. I came up with the name of the night and, while speaking with Tracks, it turned out that the people behind the application were interested in doing a night with them. It was an obvious choice to have it this Friday, the opening night of Grinder.

What message do you have for readers of MileHighGayGuy.com?
I hope to see many of your readers at Tracks on Friday to help kick-off this night in true Denver fashion.

A Q&A with Raven from RuPaul's Drag Race

A Q&A with Raven
by Drew Wilson

I love me some 'RuPaul's Drag Race.' And while season two runner-up Raven was not my cup of tea (I was Team Tatianna all the way), she brought the drama, looked flawless doing it, and week after week she managed to give the judges what they were looking for.

Raven will be appearing tonight at Tracks for the very first stop on the nationwide RuPaul's Drag Race Tour and while I didn't have a chance to chat with her like I did with Tyra and Jujubee, I was able to email her a few questions and find out about her best and worst experiences on the show, the meanest thing she's ever done in real life, and what Tatianna was really like.

What did you hope to accomplish by appearing on 'RuPaul's Drag Race?'
Well first of all I wanted to win!!! But, I also wanted to prove that I am pretty fierce at my craft and can take my drag anywhere I want it to! I also wanted more than just Southern California to get a glimpse of what I do and make more fans of not just myself, but drag in general!!!

What were your best/worst moments/experiences doing the show?
The best would be getting to know a few of the other girls and making lifelong friendships with them and growing a stronger bond with Morgan! I also loved working with Stephan May who was my drag mother in the Golden Girls episode! He was such a delight and that was such a rewarding experience! The worst would have to be the eight hours in drag on heels in front of the judges waiting to hear the fate of yourself and the other girls...NOT SO FUN, but still worth it in the end!

Are you a villainess in real life like you were on the show?
Not at all! I am actually very sweet and down to earth. At the same though, when my opinion is asked ... be ready for it! I think confidence and the ability to speak your mind is always viewed as being a little bitchy!

What's the meanest thing you've ever said/did to somebody in real life?
UGH... I made smoothies once for myself and my brother and put a laxative in his! I know, that is so mean, but it is the meanest thing I have ever done!

What advice do you have for the queens of season three?
BE 100% PREPARED!!! Thicken your skin and remember that, whatever the outcome is, YOU are a drag superstar!!!

What was Tatianna really like? Do you think she would date me?
Well, she just might! I think you will have to take her on a date and find out what she is like!!!

Why should readers of MileHighGayGuy.com come see the show at Tracks tonight?
Tonight is going to fierce, funky, fun and fresh! Plus ... You'll get a chance to see that I am actually rather nice and approachable! And I do need to add ... we look much better in person! Those high def cameras ... UGH!

Is there anything else that you would like to say?
Thank you for having us girls out to come entertain you and for the love and support! You guys are amazing!!!!!!!!!!!

RuPaul's Drag Race Tour: Raven bailed on me so please enjoy a taste of Tatianna

This blog posting was supposed to be an interview with 'RuPaul's Drag Race' contestant/villainess Raven.

Raven is coming to Tracks in Denver tomorrow night as part of the RuPaul's Drag Race tour.

However, at the very last possible second Raven claimed to be sick and unable to do the interview.

Thanks a lot, Raven. I could have gone to visit my sick great-grandmother in the hospital instead of sitting around waiting on you.

Jut kidding. My great-grandmother's dead.

Anyway, since Raven bailed on me I decided to use this space to post pictures of Raven's much younger, and significantly more beautiful, arch-rival from the show, Tatianna.

Check out the results in all nine major categories, as well the winners in cities all over the world including the winner of Best Bar in Denver, Tracks.

Do you agree with the voting? Which do you think is the Best Gay Bar in Denver?
