Good Chemistry to Open Second Dispensary in Aurora

Good Chemistry, one of Colorado’s leading providers of marijuana products and related services, will celebrate the opening of its second dispensary at 16840 E. Iliff Ave. in Aurora on April 9.

The 3,600-square-foot store will be open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily and will offer customers the same award-winning lineup of recreational marijuana products it offers at its original medical and recreational facility in Denver.

In developing the Aurora location and with an eye toward continued national expansion, Good Chemistry CEO and founder Matthew Huron brought together a team of experienced professionals to implement the company’s vision for a groundbreaking retail cannabis experience that is both inviting and educational.

Good Chemistry's Matthew Huron
“Everything we do at Good Chemistry is guided by four core principles – science, access, dignity and compassion,” Huron said. “We believe that cannabis has significant therapeutic benefits and we work to support and expand its study. We think that people should have access to safe, reliable and high-quality cannabis.”

Huron first got involved in the medical marijuana industry in the 1990s, when his father and his father’s partner were diagnosed with HIV/AIDS. He saw firsthand the symptomatic relief his parents experienced from alternative medical marijuana treatments.

In 2000, he began growing medical marijuana for AIDS patients throughout California, founding and operating a nonprofit medical marijuana co-op that became one of the most respected in San Francisco.

After 10 years of operating the California co-op, Huron moved to Colorado to co-found the Wellspring Collective Medical Marijuana Center, which catered to seniors with health challenges and provided alternative health services.

Huron started Good Chemistry, a medical marijuana dispensary and nursery operation, in Denver in 2010. He is one of the founding members of the Cannabis Business Alliance, which advocates for sound marijuana industry policies and serves as a resource for small business owners, employees, patients and clients of the medical and recreational marijuana industry.

Melissa Etheridge on Gay Marriage, Obama, Marijuana & Her New Self-Released Album

Music icon Melissa Etheridge sits down with Larry King on the Emmy nominated series “Larry King Now” to talk about the ‘panic’ in her industry, Obama's job performance, legalizing marijuana and her new self-released album.

The Oscar winner also talked about why 'coming out' in 2014 isn't always an easy decision, “It’s still very ingrained into our society that men and women is correct.”

And Melissa discussed why the country has come around so fast on the issue of gay marriage and rates the president’s slow action on gay marriage rights, “It can’t be easy to be President, it can’t be easy… but as a President I think he’s doing ok...Politics is just about this side and that side and where you’re going to land and you got to wait till public opinion gets up there.”

As a cancer survivor, Melissa Etheridge explained how medical marijuana got her through it and why cannabis should be legal across the board, “I think it could help our society incredibly.”

The episode is now LIVE on Ora.tv and Hulu.com.

If There's Two Things Colorado Likes, It's Legal Marijuana and Gay Marriage

You go, Colorado!

A recent poll finds that 57% of Coloradans support the legalization of marijuana and 56% support gay marriage.

Meanwhile, a whopping 79% of Coloradans support at least some sort of legal recognition for same-sex couples such as civil unions.

Nice!

Denver County Fair launches world’s first Pot Pavilion

Who will win the nation’s first Blue Ribbon for “Best Pot Brownie” at a county fair? We’ll find out the first weekend in August, when Denver County Fair introduces the nation’s first County Fair Pot Pavilion.

The Pot Pavilion joins the Fair’s new Beer Pavilion, both situated on a new upper floor where proof-of-age ID (21 and over) will be required for entry. Once inside, attendees can enjoy themed events on the “Rocky Mountain High Stage” and roam among pot-themed exhibitor booths. The Pavilion’s Competition Display area will include entries into various categories, including “Best Homemade Bong,” “Best Brownie Recipe,” “Best Hemp Garment” “Best Cloned Plant,” “Best Home-Made Tie-Dye” and more.

Stage events will include Live Blue Ribbon Competitions like “Speed Rolling” and a “Doritos Eating Contest,” in addition to live bands, comedians, a laser light show, a "Reefer Madness" screening, Grateful Dead Karaoke and more.

Just four years old, Denver County Fair was founded by leaders in Denver’s Art Community, Tracy Weil and Dana Cain. The pair has never skimped on the innovations, virtually re-inventing the County Fair layout, while keeping most of the nostalgic, favorite County Fair traditions. “We’re mixing up a big batch of tradition with a side of NOW” has been the fair’s motto. And crowds have grown steadily each year, drawn by the lure of juxtaposition … pie eating contests alongside Robot Opera; Pony Rides and Unicorn rides; the Art Pavilion next to the Geek Pavilion; a DEVO concert along with a mother-daughter Journey tribute band; Miss Denver County Fair Drag Queen Pageants and Radio Disney performances; and the infamous Corpses & Crowns Zombie Beauty Pageant… just after the Blue Ribbon Musical Chairs event in the Kids Pavilion.

“We like to mix it up, and represent all things Denver,” says Denver County Fair’s co-founder and Marketing Director Tracy Weil. “Denver is the most pioneering city in the U.S. It’s our Western ‘can do’ sprit! It’s time for this to happen. Colorado voters spoke last year and pot is legal now. Medical marijuana has already been legal here for years, so pot is pretty mainstream to us.”

“We had to have a Pot Pavilion,” says Denver County Fair Director Dana Cain. “Being the first city in the world to legislate recreational marijuana is not an accomplishment we can ignore. So far, it really looks like a win-win for Denver, and the tax revenues are already bringing in millions of dollars for Colorado’s public education.”

In compliance with Denver’s new laws, there will be no marijuana allowed on the premises during this event. Judging for some categories in the Pot Pavilion will be held offsite. Attendees over 21 will be able to experience cutting edge Denver pot culture in a safe, fun, and educational environment.

The Pot Pavilion will be one of four new pavilions joining Denver County Fair this year. The adjoining Beer Pavilion will celebrate the fact that Colorado is also the nation’s number one beer producing state. And Denver boasts the largest number of craft beer breweriesin the US. The Sports Pavilion is another new addition, timed to celebrate Denver’s impending Super Bowl win (Yes, we said it!) And last but not least, the new I ❤ Denver Pavilion will feature local creative businesses, unicorn rides, and square dancers, alongside a host of Denver-themed crafts and offerings.

Margaret Cho is coming to Colorado

She won't be stopping in Denver but Margaret Cho will be in Boulder and Aspen this October with her new comedy tour and she has two requests; if you're a hairdresser she wants you to bring scissors so you can cut her bangs and if you've got a 420 hook-up, she wants some of that, too.

Speaking of which, did you hear that Denver might soon have the lowest fine for marijuana possession in the country?
