OUT on DVD/VOD: Fire Song

Fire Song Trailer Final from Wolfe Video on Vimeo.

Canadian Aboriginal LGBT drama FIRE SONG will release in the U.S. on DVD / VOD November 8th from Wolfe Video. The debut feature by Canadian LGBT native filmmaker Adam Garnet Jones, this is the first Canadian narrative feature film to deal with the First Nations community and Two-Spirited people.

A thoughtful character study, FIRE SONG focuses on a young gay Anishinaabe man who is at a crossroads, forced to choose between the challenges of life on a homophobic First Nation reservation and his close knit family, a secret boyfriend, and the possibilities offered by the outside world.

Said filmmaker Jones, "It is important for Aboriginal writers and directors to tell stories that respect the complex social position of Aboriginal people, while also exploring the rich emotional and spiritual lives of our characters. The emotional world of Fire Song is rooted in my own experiences, and it celebrates the incredible resilience of our young people, the strength of our families, and our hope for the future."

OUT on DVD/VOD: Coming Out

Coming Out from Wolfe Video on Vimeo.

In his directorial debut, young NYC-based filmmaker Alden Peters documents his own coming-out experience, capturing everything on-camera as he plans and boldly captures his disclosures to friends, family, and society. Inspired by social media coming out videos by teens around the world, COMING OUT places viewers directly inside the raw, intimate moments when Alden reveals his true identity to his family and friends, ranging from the painfully awkward to the hilariously honest.

Crowdsourced videos from LGBTQ youth from around the world complement the depth of Alden's own story, and he also interviews his own family, friends, and leading LGBT figures and experts, including Janet Mock, about the unique challenges of coming out in today's digital era.

Said Alden, "When I was a questioning teenager, and later when I made the decision to come out of the closet, I searched for a film that showed the process of coming out. I found nothing but fiction films and YouTube videos, and nobody discussed what happened immediately after coming out. I wanted to see that entire process and hear the uncertainties along the way. Over five years later, Coming Out is the film that I craved."

In the age of smartphones, Facebook, and over-sharing, COMING OUT succeeds in making the personal both a cultural event and a political celebration, and a poignant transcendence of the genre.

OUT on DVD/VOD: Downriver

Breaking Glass Pictures will release their latest LGBT title DOWNRIVER on VOD and DVD August 23, 2016. Reminiscent of Winter's Bone, DOWNRIVER is a chilling mystery from award-winning writer/director Grant Scicluna that courageously deals with loss, identity, trauma, and hard-won redemption.

James (Reef Ireland) has just been released from prison after serving time for drowning a little boy when he himself was just a child. The boy's body was never found, and James, guilt-ridden and still haunted by questions about what really happened that day, returns to the rural community where the crime took place and undertakes a quest to find the body. Along the way, he is confronted by bullies and sexual predators from his past, and the punishment he risks by breaking parole now pales next to the threat of violence from the shadowy characters emerging all around him.

OUT on DVD/VOD: Chemsex

Traversing an underworld of intravenous drug use and weekend-long sex parties, "Chemsex" tells the story of several men struggling to make it out of 'the scene' alive - and one health worker who has made it his mission to save them. While society looks the other way, this powerful and unflinching film uncovers a group of men battling with HIV, drug addiction and finding acceptance in a changing world.

“Chemsex holds back no punches, it is a visceral and honest look at a subculture that many are unaware of. This kind of unflinching story is synonymous with the Vice brand and Breaking Glass could not be more excited to work with them in bringing this powerful documentary to North American audiences,” says Michael Repsch, SVP of Sales & Distribution at Breaking Glass Pictures.

Breaking Glass is planning a VOD and DVD release for November 2016.

OUT on DVD/VOD: Beautiful Something

In Beautiful Something, Brian (Brian Sheppard) crashes and burns with each guy he meets, but does not understand why. Jim (Zack Ryan) is not afraid to break hearts - except when it comes to his forty-something lover, a renowned sculptor. It seems Drew (Colman Domingo, Fear the Walking Dead, Birth of a Nation) is more focused on his latest masterpiece than Jim. Meanwhile, Bob (John Lescault, Lincoln), cruises for hustlers in his white limo, searching for the thrill of lost love.

They comb the streets of the City of Brotherly Love, looking for connection - though often settling for the quick and dirty. But tonight, each will cross paths with the other, sending shockwaves through their lives.

Director Joseph Graham (Strapped) has created a retro-timeless vision of a sexually charged gay life that critics have called "carnal and cerebral...a compassionate, romantic drama" (Village Voice "Critic's Pick"), "erotically charged" (Hollywood Reporter), and a "feverish... romantic hunting ground" (New York Times).
