OUT on VOD (and in Select Theaters): Kiki

25 years after Paris Is Burning introduced the art of voguing to the world, Kiki revisits New York City's thriving underground ballroom scene. It's a larger-than-life world in which LGBTQ youths of color are empowered by staging elaborate dance competitions that showcase their dynamic choreography, fabulous costumes, and fierce attitude. It's also a safe haven for struggling, at-risk teens who find acceptance, support, and friendship within the Kiki community. Granted intimate access to the scene, filmmaker Sara Jordenö introduces viewers to some of Kiki culture's most prominent personalities, going beyond the glamour of the balls to highlight the serious challenges facing queer black and Latino young people. Bringing together heartrending personal stories with incredible displays of creative expression, Kiki is "exhilarating...an indelible, must-see ode to gay New York" (Manohla Dargis, The New York Times).

Written and directed by Sara Jordenö and co-written by Twiggy Pucci Garcon, Sundance Selects will release Kiki in select theaters and on VOD on February 24th.

In Esteros, Matías and Jerónimo—played by Ignacio Rogers and Estaban Masturini, who have a potent on-screen chemistry—have known each other since childhood. However, Matías’ father forces them apart when he takes a job far away. Ultimately, distance and family contempt for homosexuality leads Matías to deny his friend, and ultimately, himself.

More than ten years later, Matías returns to his old town for Carnival with his girlfriend, where he unexpectedly runs into Jerónimo. Feelings between the two men slowly reappear, leading to a long-repressed awakening. But at what cost? OUT on DVD/VOD: Shared Rooms

A sexy, exuberant gay romantic comedy, SHARED ROOMS, will release November 15th on DVD / VOD via Wolfe Video.

This new romantic comedy brings together three interrelated tales of gay men seeking family, love and sex during the holiday season.

Married couple Laslo and Cal unexpectedly take in a gay teen relative who's been kicked out of his home; Sid and Gray have a casual online hookup which unexpectedly deepens; and roommates Julian and Dylan confront their secret mutual attraction when forced to share a bed for a week. At a New Year's Eve party, these stories come together in a heartwarming and joyous ending.

Accomplished filmmakers Rob Williams and his partner Rodney Johnson (makers of the gay holiday hit Make The Yuletide Gay) have created a crowd pleasing gay holiday comedy, starring a sexy ensemble cast, and set in the hip Los Angeles enclave of Silverlake. This is their eighth feature film.

Said Williams, "I believe in the power of film, and especially, the power of gay films. We can show people who don't get to be out and open in their daily lives that it's possible to find true love, that it's possible to find an accepting family, and that it's possible to be gay and be happy. I hope that in creating a world where men find love and family - even if it's just a movie - we can inspire people to look for the positive things in life and to welcome love in whatever form it comes."

Coming Out from Wolfe Video on Vimeo.

In his directorial debut, young NYC-based filmmaker Alden Peters documents his own coming-out experience, capturing everything on-camera as he plans and boldly captures his disclosures to friends, family, and society. Inspired by social media coming out videos by teens around the world, COMING OUT places viewers directly inside the raw, intimate moments when Alden reveals his true identity to his family and friends, ranging from the painfully awkward to the hilariously honest.

Crowdsourced videos from LGBTQ youth from around the world complement the depth of Alden's own story, and he also interviews his own family, friends, and leading LGBT figures and experts, including Janet Mock, about the unique challenges of coming out in today's digital era.

Said Alden, "When I was a questioning teenager, and later when I made the decision to come out of the closet, I searched for a film that showed the process of coming out. I found nothing but fiction films and YouTube videos, and nobody discussed what happened immediately after coming out. I wanted to see that entire process and hear the uncertainties along the way. Over five years later, Coming Out is the film that I craved."

In the age of smartphones, Facebook, and over-sharing, COMING OUT succeeds in making the personal both a cultural event and a political celebration, and a poignant transcendence of the genre.
