Nice to See StevieB: Maintaining the Mean
By StevieB
I am not a fan of clutter. This may be part of my homosexual training in “clean surfaces.” Part of the homosexual agenda that pushes a simple and clean esthetic, and to force straights to no longer keep their toasters out on the counter, or large bowls of decorator soaps on the back of toilets. Pushing and forcing our agenda on America. An agenda of tasteful design, simplicity in form and function. When clean design solves a functional problem as simply and elegantly as possible, the resulting form will be carried to success by the gays.
That being said, I had a personal intervention last night…..
Yes, I am working fifty hours a week on top of going to school. I still should be able to keep my desk clean. Yet at the bottom of the pile is the box my Mac came in… over a year and half ago. And that’s the issue. When I purchase fun toys, I don’t want to part with the box. Like unwrapping and unboxing is such a high, I don’t want to just toss out the package. If it didn’t just smack of effort and crazy, I’d be one of those “unboxers” on Youtube. Those people that video the unboxing of any new electronics, and post it to YouTube. If I start, I welcome any smacks to the head.
So, I just keep the bags and/or boxes to hold onto the thrill of opening the new item. Well, it may also be warranty and return purposes. That doesn’t mean I must leave them on my desk so I may contemplate when I should be writing a paper on Aristotle’s philosophy on happiness in human nature (no irony there).
Yet it does bring the reason why I still have the bag for my Coach wallet. “Happiness depends on ourselves.” Aristotle enshrines happiness as a central purpose of human life and a goal in itself. A new Coach wallet, although completely shallow in its happiness, makes me happy. Aristotle argues that virtue is achieved by maintaining the Mean, which is the balance between two excesses. I don’t depend wholly on wallets Swatches for happiness, they’re tiny treats for working fifty hours a week and going to school. I maintain the Mean.
Now if only I could get the bags and boxes off my desk to maintain my clean desk… that’s another issue. I am not a fan of clutter.

Significant Changes on Tax Day for Same-Sex Couples After Marriage Equality Victories at the Supreme Court
With historic victories for marriage equality at the Supreme Court of the United States last year, including the striking down of Section 3 of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) in the Windsor case, tax day will change for thousands of married LGBT couples. In an effort to clear the confusion around filing income taxes, the Human Rights Campaign, the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization, has created an online guide to filing taxes at www.hrc.org/taxes.
“The LGBT community continues to make gains in the fight for full equality, and with those gains come the rights and responsibilities of marriage including tax filing at the federal level. Because some states continue to ignore marriages, many couples will be required to jump through extra hoops” said HRC Legal Director Sarah Warbelow. “As tax day approaches next week, thousands of legally married same-sex couples are scrambling to figure out what they need to do to file their taxes and we are proud to offer online resources to help.”

ENDA now has 7 Republican co-sponsors in the House
Rep. Mike Coffman, R-Colo., last Thursday became the seventh Republican in the House to co-sponsor the Employment Non-Discrimination Act. The bill has bipartisan support in the Senate but has not been brought to the floor of the House yet. “I see this legislation as the workplace equivalent of the Golden Rule -- do unto others, as you would have them do unto you,” Coffman said.

OutServe-SLDN & AMPA Joint Press Release Regarding Amicus Brief filed with U.S. Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals
OutServe-Servicemembers Legal Defense Network (SLDN) and the American Military Partner Association (AMPA) on Friday jointly filed a friend of the court brief with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit in the case of Bostic v. Schaefer, decided by a federal district court in Virginia, arguing that the uneven patchwork of states providing marriage equality harms military families, undermines national security, complicates the payment of earned veterans benefits, and harms veterans. The brief, on which the law firm Chadbourne & Parke serves as counsel, urges the Court to end the discrimination caused by the lack of marriage equality by recognizing a constitutional right for people of the same gender to marry on the same terms as opposite-gender couples.
“Our gay and lesbian service members put their lives on the line for every state in our union, and it’s shameful that they and their families are treated as second-class by some of the governments of those states,” said Stephen Peters, president of AMPA. “Our military families deserve better than to have to worry about where in America they will be stationed, and our veterans certainly deserve access to the benefits they earned serving our nation, no matter what state they live in.”

Quote of the Day: Nebraska Sen. Danielle Conrad
Discrimination is real for this population. It is pervasive. It crushes the hopes, it crushes the dreams, it crushes the productivity of some of our citizens who deserve nothing less than the equal treatment we all enjoy under the law." -- Nebraska state Sen. Danielle Conrad, who introduced an employment nondiscrimination bill that was recently filibustered, as quoted by The Associated Press

Take a New Look at the Old West in Denver; Where to Eat, Drink and Sleep in the Historic Mile High City
Denver’s
history may be short, but it is certainly colorful. In 1857, not a
single person was living in the Colorado Territory at the confluence of
the South Platte River and Cherry Creek. Then gold was discovered. In
just three years, more than 100,000 men and women passed through the
boom town called Denver, seeking their fortune in the great "Pikes Peak
or Bust" gold rush.
The
railroads came next. In the 2,000 miles of wilderness between St. Louis
and California, the two most opulent railroad stops became Denver and
San Francisco.
In
this golden age, Denver was a city of dreams filled with cattle barons
and overnight gold-rich millionaires – the “Queen City of the Plains.”
The wealth of the mountains was poured into parks filled with lakes and
flower gardens and linked by 17 tree-lined boulevards. Colorado marble
and granite was used to construct banks, hotels, and mansions and Denver
boasted the highest building and the first elevator west of the
Mississippi River.
Today,
at nearly the same pace of the gold rush, these wonderful old
structures are being restored or transformed into hip breweries,
chef-owned restaurants, bakeries, cafes, museums, and trendy boutiques.
Here's where to take a new look at the Old West in Denver.
