One Colorado: We're so close to our goal!

By Daniel Ramos, Executive Director, One Colorado Education Fund

I just wanted to take a moment to share my gratitude to those who supported One Colorado yesterday for Colorado Gives Day. Thanks to folks all across the state, our organization raised over $36,000. We couldn’t have done it without loyal supporters like you. Thank you.

If you missed the opportunity yesterday, it’s not too late to donate now and help us make our $40,000 fundraising goal before the end of the week!

With just $3,900 away from our goal, we’re asking you to dig deep. Yesterday, four of our staff received pies in the face as we got closer to our goal.

I will be next if we cross the $40,000 mark. Will you chip in today?

Thanks for all you do!

Mary Queen of Scots: In select theaters this Friday

In select theaters this Friday, “Mary Queen of Scots” explores the turbulent life of the charismatic Mary Stuart (
Saoirse Ronan). Queen of France at 16 and widowed at 18, Mary defies pressure to remarry. Instead, she returns to her native Scotland to reclaim her rightful throne. But Scotland and England fall under the rule of the compelling Elizabeth I (Margot Robbie). Each young Queen beholds her “sister” in fear and fascination. Rivals in power and in love, and female regents in a masculine world, the two must decide how to play the game of marriage versus independence. Determined to rule as much more than a figurehead, Mary asserts her claim to the English throne, threatening Elizabeth’s sovereignty. Betrayal, rebellion, and conspiracies within each court imperil both thrones – and change the course of history.

Robyn - Honey

Following the release of “HONEY,” (Konichiwa/Interscope Records) one of 2018’s most-beloved albums (and her first in eight years), Robyn is releasing the video for the album’s title track. The video was directed by Max Vitali who has previously helmed many iconic visuals for Robyn, including the video for ”Call Your Girlfriend.”

Robyn wanted the process of making the video to also embody her mantra of bringing people together and communicating in person. She issued an open casting call, posted to Twitter, where she asked for modern and liberated supporters to send in videos of themselves dancing. The music video was filmed in London and stars Robyn and these fans, coming to Clapton/London from the UK, the US, Sweden, France, Norway and Denmark. It is a testament to love, sensuality and the loose feeling during the after-hours of a great party, encapsulating the themes of Robyn’s universally acclaimed sixth album.

Says director Vitali: “As with any video, or anything in life at all in fact, it’s all about having great people around. We had amazing, beautiful people that brought amazing, beautiful energy, both in front of and behind the camera, and I hope that comes across.”

Robyn continues: “I was amazed by the warmth and open spirit of the cast. It was lovely to dance with them during the shoot, the energy was so cool. Max and I both wanted this video to feel loose and free and I was just so impressed of how everyone who came to be a part of the shoot just got it and gave it their all.”

Robyn and Max Vitali worked with long time collaborators Maria Wahlberg aka Decida and Jefta Van Dinther and Thiago Granato for the choreography for the video. It is produced by Academy Films and shot by DOP Mathieu Plainfosse.

As previously announced, Robyn will be embarking on a full North American and European tour in support of Honey, her first full tour since 2013. Yesterday, Red Bull Music Festival Los Angeles announced its line-up including two Robyn shows on February 22nd and 23rd at the Palladium. You can listen to Robyn's 2018 Red Bull Music Festival lecture here.

Travel: Cuba VIP Travel Announces New Havana LGBTQ Pride Celebration Tour to Mark Historic Changes to the Cuban Constitution

Cuba VIP Travel, the Miami-based travel agency specializing in customized experiences of Cuba, is launching an exciting new tour for 2019: the Havana LGBTQ Pride Celebration tour. The five-day trip will coincide with Havana’s Pride Parade and will include numerous opportunities to socialize and work with renowned activists in the local LGBTQ rights movement.

“It was important to us to craft an itinerary that not only captured the joy of the Havana Pride Parade but offered insights into the incredible work being done here to advance the cause of LGBTQ rights,” says Yaima Sanchez, Co-Founder, and COO of Cuba VIP Travel. “That’s why it’s such a great honor that we’ll be collaborating with some of the most prominent names in Cuba’s LGBTQ community, including individual activists as well as organizations, all of them playing key roles in the vital push for rights. These are the people changing the LGBTQ landscape across Cuba, and we’re so proud to be able to invite our customers to be part of that.”

The new tour has been designed as a celebratory response to the landmark announcement earlier this year that the Cuban National Assembly was backing a constitutional change that will, for the first time, allow same-sex marriage in the country. Through a carefully curated series of experiences, the tour will offer customers a snapshot of Havana’s LGBTQ scene at this crucial moment in history.

OUT on DVD/VOD: Scaffolding

Breaking Glass Pictures will release the award-winning, festival favorite, Israeli drama SCAFFOLDING in North America. The film debuts on all digital VOD platforms January 1, including iTunes; Amazon Prime Video; Google Play; Vudu; FandangoNOW; iNDEMAND; Direct TV and more, as well as on DVD.

Described as "a fully absorbing character study (Los Angeles Times) and "a tough and moving educational drama" (The Hollywood Reporter), this “small film with a big heart” (Screen International) earned the title of  “one of the most beautiful and interesting films that were ever made in Israel” (Avner Shavit, Walla) when it held its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in the prestigious ACID showcase. The film went on to win numerous awards, including Best Israeli Feature and Best Actor awards as well as an honorable mention for Best Cinematography at the Jerusalem Film Festival, and received 8 Israeli Film Academy nominations and won the prize for Best Supporting Actor.

“Matan Yair's debut feature is both dazzling and wonderfully literate”, said Richard Ross, Co-President of Breaking Glass. “Newcomer, and non-actor, Asher Lax delivers a mesmerizing, assured performance in this complex tale of a boy and his difficult relationship with both his father and teacher.”

17-year- old ASHER has always been the impulsive troublemaker, from primary school, all through junior high and high school. It's hard for him to concentrate in class, and he is compelled by a lot of rage and violence; yet he is also endowed with a considerable amount of charm and street wisdom. While his strict father sees him as a natural successor to the family's scaffolding business, Asher finds a different masculine role model in his gentle literature teacher Rami and forges a special connection with him. Torn between the two worlds, Asher looks for a chance for a new life and new identity. When a sudden tragedy occurs, he has to take the ultimate test of maturity.

SCAFFOLDING played a number of film festivals, including the Toronto Independent Film Festival, the Chicago International Film Festival, the Philadelphia Film Festival, and the Raindance Film Festival.

It's now easier than ever to get a Colorado state ID that reflects who you are

Starting yesterday, transgender and non-binary Colorado residents will be more easily able to update the gender markers on state identification documents (IDs).

What do you need to know?

Coloradans who don’t identify as male (M) or female (F) can update their drivers licenses, state identification cards, and driving permits with a gender neutral “X” designation, as determined by them and their licensed treating medical or behavioral healthcare provider.

To update your gender marker, you and your provider must complete DR 2083 Change of Sex Designation form with a signature from your licensed medical or behavioral healthcare provider. This requirement does not require an individual to undergo any specific surgery, treatment, clinical care, or behavioral healthcare.

It must be printed, signed, and submitted in person to your local Department of Motor Vehicles branch

Your provider can be licensed in Colorado or any other state.

There is no additional fee to change the sex identifier, however, you will need to pay the standard fee to obtain a new card.

More information can be found on Colorado Department of Revenue’s FAQ: Non-binary Sex Identifier on Driver Licenses and Identification Cards document.
