Levitt Pavilion Denver Announces Passing of Mimi Levitt

Levitt Pavilion Denver is sad to announce the passing of the Levitt Foundation’s namesake and founder, Mimi Levitt, who passed away Sunday at age 97. Mimi, along with her husband Mortimer, were iconic patrons of the arts and their generosity and vision lead to the creation of seven Levitt Pavilions across the country, including the first Pavillion in Westport (CT) which the couple opened in 1974. This hands-on approach to philanthropy and activism were sources for positive social change across America, including here in Denver with our Levitt Pavilion which opened its doors in 2017. These efforts, along with Levitt Foundation’s “AMP”, Series have given the Levitt Foundation the distinction of the largest provider of free music in the country.

Levitt Denver Executive Director, Chris Zacher, who started the nonprofit Friends of Levitt Pavilion Denver in 2012, had this to say about Mimi. “Mimi’s visionary leadership helped bring underutilized Parks across the country back to life through the gift of free music. Mimi will be greatly missed, though her legacy lives on in the work of Levitt Foundation.”

With Levitt Pavilions opening up in Sioux Falls (SD), Dayton (OH) and others, Mimi’s legacy will continue to grow and her mission of increasing access to the arts will flourish.
More about Mimi’s life and legacy can be found here.

Nice to See StevieB: Hit the Slopes

By StevieB

The Christmas and New Year celebrations were amazing. A lot of home time, spent watching Christmas movies with Mike and Naveen. Yes, I got the presents I wanted, and it seams they too were happy with the gifts I gave. We now have our living room view back, as the tree was deconsecrated on news day. By this, I mean as I placed the last string of lights in their box, Mike picked up the tree marched to the balcony and tossed it over. The gleam in his eye told me he’d been wanting to do that act for awhile.

The Christmas holiday also brought changes to my relationship. Naveen started a new relationship outside of ours. As I don’t believe in monogamy, (a viewpoint just for me-not others) I was more than happy to encourage this behavior. Right after Thanksgiving He became a snowboarder. A six-foot-two, Indian, snowboarder. Now, don’t get me wrong, I love the outdoors, but sliding down mountains doesn’t not speak to me.

The only interference with our blissful household is that he wants to borrow my car to do this endeavor. Taking my all-wheel drive up the mountain. And hopefully, backdown again. When this happens I receive my German sport wagon back covered in grime. I clutch pearls and clench my jaw every time I lay eyes on my Deutschwagon, ice packed and mud covered.

I fear asking him to get my car cleaned. This is because I am so obsessive about my car being perfect that I don’t trust just how he may clean my wolfsbaby. When I attempted to explain the difference between a brush verses brushless car wash I just recieved an eye roll. So... clearly I’m the only one who sees the difference in quality car maintenance. Yes, I didn’t get a chance to put a solid wax on before winter. But, you just can’t send you car through a car wash with those rolling brushes. What are we? Monsters?

There needs to be a concierge service for rich dude-bro boarder...dudes. One at the base of the mountains where they can stop by after shredding it all day and have their borrowed luxury cars cleaned and pressed. Great idea for a ski town business. There ya go.

Until then, I’ll be content getting flaming hot Cheetos out of my vegan leather interior.

Danity Kane (DK3), Brooke Candy to Perform at the 2019 GayVN Awards

AVN Media Network announced today that the pop sensation group Danitiy Kane (DK3) and the Los Angeles hardcore pop iconoclast Brooke Candy will be the featured musical performer at the 2019 GayVN Awards Show presented by ManyVids, set to take place Monday, January 21 inside The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel Casino, Las Vegas, Nevada.

”We are thrilled and excited to be a part of this amazing night,” says the ladies of Danity Kane (DK3). “This will be such a fun show, and we’re preparing to slay the stage and leave everyone wanting more!”

Danity Kane is a multi-platinum, international, chart topping, independent female music group. The group originally formed on MTV's hit series "Making the Band" and signed to Bad Boy/Atlantic Records in 2005 under the direction of Sean "Diddy" Combs. With radio hits like "Showstopper" and "Damaged" they proved their talents as legitimate industry artists. Their freshman and sophomore albums "Danity Kane" and "Welcome to the Dollhouse" both debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 chart. Danity Kane became the first female group in Billboard's history to consecutively debut albums at #1, placing them in the "Guinness Book of World Records". In 2014 Dawn Richard, Aubrey O’Day and Shannon Bex of Danity Kane became DK3. Their album, featuring their hit single “Lemonade”, which featured Tyga, went #1 on US Top Current Albums and charted on Billboards Top 200.

Brooke Dyan Candy is an American rapper, singer, director, muse, and fashion stylist. Raised in the suburbs of Los Angeles, Candy worked as a stripper in early adulthood. She rose to prominence after starring in Grimes' video for "Genesis", which gained viral success. Brooke Candy trumpets a call-to-arms weaponized by an industrial barrage, hip-hop bravado, and bloodthirsty punk recklessness on her 2018 independent EP, Who Cares. She premiered her newest track, "Nuts" with Lil Aaron, co-written by Saint John and Sarah Hudson, last month.
Brooke Candy is excited for the opportunity. “As a queer female and artist, I couldn’t be more excited to be performing at the GayVN awards! I’m obsessed with all things involving SEX so it’s the perfect stage for me to be the fun FREAK that I truly am!”

“We are excited to have both Danity Kane (DK3) and Brooke Candy as our entertainment during the show," said AVN CEO Tony Rios. "The energy and vitality from these performances will be an incredible addition to what will be a historic night!”

Recognizing excellence in the gay adult entertainment industry, the GayVNs will honor winners in 15 categories judged by a group of industry professionals and 11 categories voted on by fans. The Gay Vegans: One Day

By Dan Hanley

I am super stoked for the new year. Something I have been putting alot of thought into lately is this phrase: Day one or one day? Am I going to start today (taking action on whatever) or keep thinking about it?

This could be about veganism, activism, exercise/health, changing jobs/careers, getting sober, loving others; the list could go on and on. And it puts the focus, at least for me, on the power of one day, not whether or not I am going to do something every day for the next year.

My day one is bigger picture, and will be big in my life. I’m honestly not ready to commit to day one yet, but I am close to that. Another version of my day one was to focus on being healthier. I have already started that.

What about you?

Historic Number of LGBTQ Members of Congress to Be Sworn In Today

Ten openly LGBTQ people will be sworn-in to the 116th U.S. Congress this afternoon – two to the U.S. Senate and eight to the U.S. House – the most LGBTQ people to ever serve in either chamber. The previous record was held by the last Congress with seven LGBTQ people serving – one in the Senate and six in the House. Half of the 10 LGBTQ members will now be women and two are people of color, up from just two LGBTQ women and one person of color. Five of the members are new to their positions.

“A historic number of LGBTQ people will serve in the new U.S. Congress and their influence will shape the debate on equality legislation and issues moving forward,” said Mayor Annise Parker, President & CEO of LGBTQ Victory Institute. “In the U.S. Senate, those opposed to the Equality Act will now need to look two openly LGBTQ Senators in the eyes and tell them their lives are not worth protecting. In the U.S. House, Speaker Pelosi will have eight LGBTQ Representatives to consult about how various healthcare or criminal justice reform policies uniquely affect our community. The relationships these LGBTQ lawmakers will build with their colleagues on Capitol Hill are transformative, and with an unprecedented number of women and people of color also joining the 116th Congress, equality issues will finally receive the attention they deserve.”
