Attention wannabe fashion designers (I know you're out there!)

Thanks to an innovative design competition, one lucky Denver-area fashion designer will soon join other promising artists nationwide who have seen their outstanding jungle costume design go from the page to the stage in CIRQUE DREAMS JUNGLE FANTASY, which plays Denver’s Buell Theatre February 14-17. Sponsored by The Denver Center for the Performing Arts and CBS 4, the production is presenting a unique contest that invites area designers to submit a jungle-themed costume sketch for the acrobatic performers of the touring production. The winning design will be created by the costume team at Cirque Productions and will be seen on the Buell stage as part of the show.

Neil Goldberg, artistic director of the South Florida-based Cirque Productions, is the mastermind behind the interactive concept. “We came up with this idea in an effort to engage people of all ages with an experience that can bring their own dreams to life, an opportunity I wish I had as a young daydreamer,” Goldberg said.

Contest details: Anyone wishing to submit a sketch of their own jungle-themed costume idea can do so by e-mailing their design to costumes@cirqueproductions.com no later than February 8, 2008. No more than two designs may be submitted per contestant. If chosen, the costume design team at Cirque Dreams Studios will interpret and manufacture the costume, premier it onstage when the show performs in Denver, and make the winner the fashion toast of the town. The winner will also receive four complimentary tickets to the performance at the Buell Theatre and a $500 American Express gift card.
