New York gubernatorial candidate Paladino stands by anti-gay remarks

New York's Republican nominee for governor, Carl Paladino, said Monday he does not regret remarks in which he warned against children being "brainwashed" to accept homosexuality, though Paladino insisted he is not anti-gay.

"I don't want them to be brainwashed into thinking that homosexuality is an equally valid and successful option," Paladino said Sunday before an audience of Orthodox Jewish leaders.

Paladino explained he was trying to highlight the difference between himself and his Democratic opponent, Andrew Cuomo, who said Paladino's remarks demonstrated "stunning homophobia."
