Help Wanted: Program Coordinator for Denver Element, Salespeople for MileHighGayGuy, SEO Analyst for Sage Hospitality

1. Mpowerment Program Coordinator for Mile High Council/The Denver Element

The Denver ELEMENT is a program of Mile High Council.  We are a community-based program in celebration of our individual and collective strength, our innate wisdom as men who love men, and our capacity for creating deep and meaningful communities.  Our work, while building community, is to reduce the transmission of HIV and educate gay men in Denver on HIV Stigma, Status Disclosure and Intimacy.

We are seeking: a creative and energetic individual who is intimately connected with Denver’s gay male youth community.  The Mpowerment Program Coordinator will implement a program for gay/bi/questioning young men ages 18-25, in which participants are empowered to create events and social activities relevant to our community, and which will engage young gay and bi men to create a supportive and empowering environment that results in a new social norm of reduced risk behaviors and reduced HIV infection in Denver’s gay/bi male community.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Program Management
The Mpowerment Program Coordinator will help design and coordinate the various events and social activities created by program participants.  Coordinator will be the principal liaison between participants and Program Manager and the State Health Department (funders), and will ensure that all activities comply with funding guidelines.  This position will also facilitate formal HIV education and prevention trainings.  In addition, the Mpowerment Coordinator will help advertise and promote the program to the community and other agencies, manage internal and external referrals, conduct and document surveys and program objectives, manage a small group of volunteers, and coordinate/supervise community outreach efforts.

Special Events/Activities Planning
The core element of Mpowerment is the creation of fun and exciting events and activities that will recruit and engage gay/bi young men 18-25.  These events might include dances, game/movie nights, camping trips, field trips, etc.  Though participants are encouraged and empowered to design, promote and implement their own activities and events, the Program Coordinator must have experience in events planning/implementation and be able to guide the participants in ensuring successful events that engage a large number of gay/bi male youth.

Group Facilitation
M-Groups are formal HIV education and prevention training sessions for program participants who seek a higher level of education and experience in HIV and risk reduction.  The Program Coordinator will be the primary facilitator for the groups, and will coordinate/supervise volunteer co-facilitators for each session.  Coordinator must have excellent facilitation skills, including public speaking, program design, PowerPoint and other presentation skills, and superb communication skills.

Community Relationship
Program Coordinator will assist Program Manager in building new relationships with community members, partner agencies, and other local businesses to promote the Mpowerment program.  This includes creating printed collateral, in-person meetings, and community outreach efforts among Denver’s gay male community and in venues that cater to gay male youth.  In addition to cultivating new relationships, Program Coordinator will assist in maintaining and strengthening current community relationships.

Outreach/Volunteer Management Experience
An essential part of this position will be to recruit and engage a large number of our target population to participate in our program activities and to attend the M-Group HIV trainings.  Formal and informal outreach will be conducted in local colleges, parks, community centers, bars, and other venues where young gay/bi men gather.  Experience in community outreach and volunteer management is essential.
