Colorado Case Influencing National Discussion on Transgender Children
http://www.cnn.com/video/data/2.0/video/us/2013/02/27/bts-transgendered-girls-mom.kmgh.htmlA
lawsuit over a 6-year-old child's bathroom use at a Colorado school is
part of an emerging national discussion about how to accommodate
transgender children, including whether to allow them to use the
bathroom of the gender with which they identify. School officials
offered to let the child, who identifies as a girl, use a separate
bathroom, but the child's parents have rejected the offer, saying it
would stigmatize her. Openly gay California lawmaker Assemblyman Tom
Ammiano has proposed legislation that would guarantee trans students the
right to use restrooms or participate on sports teams that correspond
with the gender with which they identify.
