Feds won't enforce laws blocking veterans' benefits for same-sex spouses

President Barack Obama has directed the executive branch to stop enforcing two laws that bar married same-sex couples from receiving veterans' benefits, Attorney General Eric Holder announced last Wednesday.

A federal judge last week ruled that the laws were unconstitutional in light of the Supreme Court's decision on the Defense of Marriage Act. According to Holder, the DOMA ruling also influenced Obama's decision regarding veterans' benefits.
