Online privacy is an LGBT issue

Threats to online privacy are jeopardizing the safety and careers of LGBT Americans, particularly transgender members of the military, Allyson Robinson writes

Robinson, who is transgender, argues that transgender Americans, who are not allowed to serve openly in the military, depend on the relative anonymity of the Internet to find support resources and connect with each other.

"[A] safe and secure Internet is a critical resource for that organizing," Robinson writes. "In today's world, positive change can't happen without it."
