Pentagon questions need for bill to help troops discharged under DADT

The Pentagon is already carrying out processes included in a Senate bill that seeks to retroactively award honorable discharges to LGBT military veterans who were dismissed under the "don't ask, don't tell" policy, a Pentagon spokesman said recently

"DADT-related applications are being processed effectively, under clear procedures ... no new policy guidance or legislation is required at this time," Lt. Cmdr. Nathan Christensen said. Service members have complained that the Pentagon has been slow to process DADT-related complaints, according to a spokeswoman for Sen. Brian Schatz, D-Hawaii, who introduced the bill.
