Judge strikes down Neb. marriage-equality ban

U.S. District Judge Joseph Bataillon struck down Nebraska's marriage-equality ban on Monday, ruling that the law violates the equal rights of same-sex couples. Bataillon, who previously ruled against the ban in 2005 only to have a higher court overturn that judgment, said this most recent order would take effect March 9 pending an expected appeal by the state. The state on Friday announced it will no longer consider sexual orientation when determining someone's eligibility as a foster parent.
