One Colorado: World AIDS Day

By The One Colorado Team

Every year on December 1st, we recognize World AIDS Day. It’s an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV/AIDS, to show support for people living with HIV/AIDS, and to commemorate those who have died from an AIDS-related illness.

More than 14,000 Coloradans are living with HIV, but it is not the death sentence it used to be. HIV treatments and preventative medications have made significant progress in recent years. Just this year, One Colorado and supporters across the state advocated to pass legislation making HIV preventative medications (PrEP and PEP) more accessible by allowing pharmacists to dispense these medications without a prescription from a physician. We also partnered with University of Colorado Anschutz LEADS program to produce patient and provider resource guides for PrEP and PEP. You can find all the guides here.

Looking for events to honor World AIDS Day?

The Colorado Health Network's annual couture fashion benefit to support people living with or at risk of acquiring HIV, the The Red Ball, will be virtual.

Boulder County AIDS Project, in partnership with Out Boulder County, is offering a day of virtual programming, including a film screening, virtual AIDS memorial quilt display, and PrEP 101 talk.

The Equality Federation and Equality Virginia are hosting a Facebook Live event to discuss what is being done to end the HIV/AIDS epidemic and the stigma that surrounds it.
