Adam Lambert becomes first out gay man with a No. 1 album

Former "American Idol" contestant Adam Lambert made history last week with his second album, which debuted at the top spot on Billboard’s U.S. albums chart

Lambert is the first openly gay man to achieve that milestone.

Though other gay performers have reached No. 1 before coming out, none repeated the feat afterward.

Am I the only person who hadn't heard this yet? My 16-year-old niece had to give me the heads up.

This year's GLAAD Media Awards to be the most glamourous ever

Openly gay recording artist Adam Lambert will perform at the 21st Annual GLAAD Media Awards Presented in Los Angeles by ABSOLUT® Vodka on April 17, at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza.

The GLAAD Media Awards elevate and promote fair, accurate and inclusive stories of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) issues, people and allies that have increased awareness, understanding and respect for the lives of LGBT people. The GLAAD Media Awards also fund GLAAD's work to amplify stories of LGBT people and issues that build support for equality.

Lambert's debut album, 'For Your Entertainment', debuted at #3 on the Billboard 200 and has since been certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America. He is nominated this year for a GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Music Artist.

"GLAAD has advocated for out music artists, including myself, and I am proud to be part of the 21st Annual GLAAD Media Awards this year," said Adam Lambert. "GLAAD's work to share stories that grow acceptance and understanding about the gay and transgender community is so important in our culture today."

GLAAD also confirmed that Constance McMillen, the 18-year-old student from Fulton, Mississippi whose high school cancelled a prom rather than permit McMillen to attend with her girlfriend, would be presenting Wanda Sykes with the Stephen F. Kolzak Award. With the help of the American Civil Liberties Union, McMillen filed suit against her school, asking them to reinstate the prom for everyone, without discrimination. This week, a federal judge in Mississippi ruled that while he wouldn't force the school to hold a prom but agreed that McMillen's First Amendment rights had been violated.

Golden Globe-winning actress Drew Barrymore will be honored with the Vanguard Award at the Los Angeles ceremony.

Candis Cayne and Wilson Cruz will host the event. Other guests and presenters scheduled to attend include cast members from Glee, Tom Ford ('A Single Man'), Eric Dane ('Valentine's Day', 'Grey's Anatomy'), Jason Lewis ('Sex & the City'), Sofia Vergara ('Modern Family'), Chaz Bono, Benjamin Bratt ('La Mission'), RuPaul ('RuPaul's Drag Race'), Bryan Batt ('Mad Men'), Rob Halford of Judas Priest, Elizabeth Keener, Clementine Ford ('The L Word') and Countess LuAnn de Lesseps ('Real Housewives of New York City').

A complete list of this year's 152 nominees and award recipients from the GLAAD Media Awards in New York are available at www.glaad.org/mediaawards.

Quote of the Day: Gene Simmons on Adam Lambert

"If only the world was not homophobic, but it is. I would be the first one to vote for equal rights for gay women and men, and get the church and the state to stop telling everybody how to lead their lives, but do I think he's killed his career? Oh, in an instant." - Gene Simmons on Adam Lambert

Ain't it the truth?

“As more and more Americans get to know gay and lesbian people, it has a tremendous impact in terms of creating awareness, understanding and acceptance of our community. 'American Idol' has become iconic in our culture, and as Adam (Lambert) continues to share his story during his post-Idol career, we hope his decision to live openly and honestly inspires gay people and opens the hearts and minds of his fans and others he will continue to entertain.” - GLAAD President Neil G. Giuliano

Surprise! Adam Lambert's gay

Didn't watch the show but I really like this kid. He never denied anything and then he came out officially on his own terms.

Good for him.

And apparently the teen girls are crazy for him. My niece Miranda had her 15th birthday party this past weekend and he is definitely considered a hot property. They're all pretty sure he's bisexual though.

Is Adam Lambert hurting gay America?

Gawker's Richard Lawson thinks that 'American Idol' runner-up Adam Lambert's coyness regarding his sexuality is hurting gay America. Or, if not actually hurting gay America, then at least coming off as "lame".

What do you think?

We're in kind of strange times for public figures with regards to coming out.

A lot of famous people have come out with no negative reaction or impact on their careers: Wanda Sykes, Suze Orman, Neil Patrick Harris.

But there are still a lot of famous people generally regarded to be gay who, for one reason or another, have not come out: Queen Latifah, Anderson Cooper.

Adam Lambert's kind of a unique case though because with all the photos of him making out with guys and such I can't imagine there are people out there who perceive him as anything but gay.

Does he owe it to anybody to confirm or deny?

Does anybody think there's a possibility he's straight?

Clay Aiken versus Adam Lambert (bonus: Cracked.com versions of events)

La Daily Musto reports on an 'American Idol' runner-up dust up between 2003's Clay Aiken and 2009's Adam Lambert.

Aiken said Lambert made his ears bleed.

Musto loves it for the jealous cattiness of it all.

I don't watch the show but I like Cracked.com's imaginary version of a bitchy email battle between the two.
