Joe Biden "not unaware" of LGBT dissatisfaction with administration, promises action

Gawker reports on a recent Joe Biden appearance in which he promised "the repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act and Don't Ask, Don't Tell, the passage of the Lieberman-Baldwin bill on health benefits, a ban on workplace discrimination, adoption rights for all and an end to the HIV travel ban."

Fox News at 9 transposes Vice-Presidential Debate report cards to show Palin as winner

At about 9:15 tonight, during an analysis of the Vice-Presidential Debate, Fox 31 News at 9 had a debate expert from DU on to discuss the debate and grade Biden and Palin's performances.

On the graphic that Fox News showed to accompany the segment report cards with pictures of the candidates, they transposed the grades the expert gave the two and made it appear that he scored Palin with two A's and a B and Biden with and A, B and C when it was really the other way around.

They made a very brief disclaimer at the end of the segment, saying basically, "Oops, we got those mixed up."

Seemed kind of fishy to me.

If not downright scurrilous.

Is Biden racist?

I hear that Obama's veep candidate Joe Biden is pretty GLBT friendly but I'm very concerned over his apparent racist tendencies. Not cool at all.

Here's what he had to say about Obama back when he was still in the presidential race:
"I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy," Biden said. "I mean, that's a storybook, man."

And here he is making what he obviously feels is some kind of a joke about Indian people:

Granted, we've all heard worse but there's still something troubling about his statements. Is he racist, or just insensitive? I don't know but I do wonder how someone who says such things can possibly be a good leader for a multi-cultural nation like ours.

HRC President Hails Biden as “A Proven and Effective Advocate for Fairness and Equality”

Yesterday, the Human Rights Campaign, the nation’s largest gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender civil rights organization, hailed the presumptive Democratic nominee, Senator Barack Obama’s selection of Senator Joe Biden as his Vice Presidential running mate. During his career in Congress, Senator Biden has a proven record of fighting for and supporting issues of fairness and equality.

“In selecting Senator Joe Biden as his running mate, Senator Obama has chosen a proven and effective advocate for fairness and equality that our entire community can be proud of,” said Human Rights Campaign President Joe Solmonese. “Senator Biden’s record in the United States Senate is one of support and understanding that has been unwavering throughout his career.”

Recently, Senator Biden, as Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, played an instrumental role in securing the passage of the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), legislation which included Senator John Kerry and Senator Gordon Smith’s provision repealing the discriminatory HIV travel and immigration ban. His working across the aisle guaranteed that the Kerry-Smith provision was adopted. Furthermore, when opponents of the provision attempted to garner support to strip the provision from the bill, Senator Biden fought to keep the provision in the bill and helped secure the votes for PEPFAR'S final passage.

“We only need to look back to the recent passage of the repeal of the HIV travel and immigration ban to see the type of leadership we can expect from Senator Biden on the issues important to our community,” continued Solmonese. “It was because of his determination and tenacity that we were able to see this relic of discrimination against people living with HIV/AIDS torn down.”

“If the support Senator Biden has proven on our issues is any indication of the type of Vice President he will be than our community can be assured that Senator Obama has chosen a thoughtful and staunch advocate for equality as his closest adviser,” concluded Solmonese.
