Books: Fenway Health clinicians and researchers author first edition of 'Transgender and Gender Diverse Health Care: The Fenway Guide'

Fenway Health announces the release of the first case-based textbook to address the comprehensive health care needs of transgender and gender diverse adults. Co-edited by Drs. Alex S. Keuroghlian, Jennifer Potter, and Sari L. Reisner of The Fenway Institute at Fenway Health, this sentinel resource was published by McGraw Hill Professional.

Transgender and Gender Diverse Health Care: The Fenway Guide offers a roadmap for clinicians who seek to provide culturally responsive care that meets the primary, preventive, and specialty health care needs of transgender and gender diverse adult patients. Authored by Fenway Health clinicians, researchers, staff members and other national experts, the Guide highlights best practices in care from the perspectives of multiple stakeholders.

“Demand for state-of-the-art health care services for transgender and gender diverse people is rapidly increasing,” said Dr. Alex S. Keuroghlian, Director of the National LGBTQIA+ Health Education Center at The Fenway Institute, Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, and Director of the Massachusetts General Hospital Psychiatry Gender Identity Program. “This textbook is an invaluable resource to all clinicians who care for transgender and gender diverse adults.”

“Medical providers have a responsibility to be familiar with the most up-to-date scientific and clinical information, and they can find all of that information and more in this guide, which highlights key aspects of gender identity emergence across the lifespan and provides much-needed guidance on both hormonal and surgical gender affirmation,” said Dr. Jennifer Potter, Co-Chair of The Fenway Institute at Fenway Health, Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, and co-editor of The Fenway Guide to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Health, published in 2015.

“We have long known that transgender and gender diverse adults experience health care disparities largely rooted in stigma, including acts of discrimination that take place in health care settings,” said Sari L. Reisner, Sc.D, Director of Transgender Health Research at The Fenway Institute, Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, and Director of Transgender Research at Brigham and Women’s Hospital based in the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Hypertension. “Our textbook applies a health-equity model of care and provides guidance for clinicians when addressing health needs of transgender and gender diverse communities.”

Bright World Releases New Single/Video For "The Future Begins Today"

Bright World is the solo musical project of actor, singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and visual artist Evan M. Williams.  As an actor, Williams has gained worldwide popularity with his memorable roles on Versailles for BBC/Netflix U.S. (for which he was nominated for a Canadian Screen Award), fan favorite “Awkward for MTV and most recently the starring role in the feature film Midnight At The Magnolia in which he sings and plays. Midnight at the Magnolia was Top 5 in U.S. and Top 10 via worldwide streams on Netflix in winter 2020.  Williams has finished two films slated for 2022 and will star in “Christmas Takes Flight” airing on CBS winter 2021.

Today, Bright World will release a brand new single and video for ‘The Future Begins Today” from his forthcoming album Cloud Parade.  The video for the track was created by Williams spending over 250 hours learning to make his own stop motion clip.

“There is this seeming ratcheting up of the flow of news and images, evidence of a planet and society under increasing strain, and with it a sneaking suspicion that there must be a multitude of information we’re missing in the constant torrent,” Williams shared.  “I realized that collage animation would allow me to explore visually, the contradictory feelings, the scale and complexity of being alive on Earth in 2021, and set about trying to figure out how to make it happen.”

I’ve never done any kind of animation before, so there was a huge learning curve. At the same time I was excited to be working in a new medium for the first time, and the artist part of me was fascinated with the process. I spent days on the internet trying to figure out how to cobble together my own DIY setup. I read about a big multi-plane animation rig that Disney pioneered in the mid-1900’s, the golden age of animation. I decided to make that my model and through the process of trial and error, made a setup that was both practical, portable, and affordable. I created a simple vertical rig of glass panes that allowed for four levels of depth on which to animate. There were no templates, I simply drew up some designs and started constructing.”

NOEL SCHAJRIS & GUAYNAA - ENTRE LAS NUBES

Renowned musician, singer-songwriter Noel Schajris teams up with the it boy of the hour, Guaynaa, to create an unexpected and explosive collaboration with their song "ENTRE LAS NUBES". This pop ballad style track was produced by Noel himself, who was also the composer along with Guaynaa and Andy Clay.

The song's lyrics tell the story of a person who travels a lot that, watching the clouds from the plane's window, thinks and longs for the one he/she loves while counting the hours to see him/her and embrace him/her again. The end result is a romantic and moving track that represents Noel's melodic style, but that acquires new colors and nuances with the addition of Guaynaa's powerful interpretation singing in its purest style, resulting in a unique and very special piece that echoes when you listen to both voices at the same time.

IGLTA Global Convention Set for Milan

The International LGBTQ+ Travel Association will bring its 38th Annual Global Convention to Milan, 26-29 October 2022. The convention, the premier educational and networking event for LGBTQ+ tourism, will be the association’s first European convention since Madrid in 2014. The event was originally set for 2020, but had to be rescheduled due to the pandemic.

“We’re excited to finally be able to celebrate our long, successful partnership with Italy, and showcase Milan, the country’s most cosmopolitan LGBTQ+ welcoming city,” said IGLTA President/CEO John Tanzella. “While the postponements were disappointing, the conference that will unfold will be even more meaningful for the destination and our membership. The convention will focus on inclusive business strategies and networking opportunities to support our industry’s future success.”

IGLTA’s Italy plans have been in the works for three years in collaboration with ENIT (Italian National Tourist Board), the City of Milan and AITGL (The Italian Association of LGBTQ+ Tourism), and will take place at UNAHOTELS Expo Fiera Milano. The Global Convention will include a Buyer/Supplier Marketplace, in partnership with the UK’s Jacobs Media Group, that features one-to-one appointments, as well as educational sessions and other networking events.

“We have never wavered in our commitment to bringing IGLTA to Milan,” said Maria Elena Rossi, Marketing and Promotion Director, ENIT. "In 2022, IGLTA attendees will discover more innovation in our tourism offerings and a greater emphasis on quality experiences that unite Milan and the surrounding area. Through collaboration with their network of tourism professionals and thought leaders we can be sure of a successful event.”

“The City of Milano is looking forward to welcoming IGLTA,” said Luca Martinazzoli, General Manager, Milano&Partners. “It will be a unique opportunity to welcome the LGBTQ+ community, a driving and positive force in the tourism industry. Milano will showcase its inclusive attitude, leveraging the local community to make every moment of IGLTA a unique Milanese experience.”

"This convention in Italy will be key to moving forward with a new world of post-pandemic travel,” said Alessio Virgili of AITGL. “Promoting LGBTQ+ travel and hosting this event is a unique business and educational opportunity for Italy and our local travel industry. The country receives 2.7 billion euros from LGBTQ+ travel, and we are proud that the IGLTA event will give our businesses the tools to best welcome them, so we can continue to grow this market in Milan and throughout Italy. "

Since 1983, IGLTA's Global Convention has been on the must-attend list for travel brands interested in the LGBTQ+ market. The association recently hosted a successful in-person convention with enhanced safety and health protocols for the first time since the pandemic began. The IGLTA Global Convention provides significant visibility for the host city with LGBTQ+ tourism professionals from all over the world, including travel advisors, tour operators, influencers, and representatives from hotels and destinations.

PEOPLE Exclusive: How Billy Porter Overcame Childhood Abuse to Become a TV Trailblazer: 'My Voice Saved Me'

Billy Porter has survived a lot. But, also, the man has lived.

"At 52 years old, I am getting to the deepest parts of my truth," Porter tells PEOPLE exclusively in this week's issue. "I'm having a rebirth — on my own terms."

Raised in Pittsburgh by a mother with a disability and within a conservative Pentecostal community, Porter was always the Billy Porter we know today: a trailblazer. He's now, of course, an Emmy winner for the F/X drama Pose, a Tony winner for the Broadway musical Kinky Boots and an iconoclast on red carpets. But the world wasn't always ready for him.

Just as Porter has always said what he wanted to say — most recently in his new memoir, Unprotected — other folks have always said a lot about him. Growing up, he was too girly. At Carnegie Mellon, where he studied theater on a scholarship, he was told his voice "was too high for the American stage." Then on Broadway, "They said don't sing 'so R&B.' I was too Black, too ethnic, too gay, too much," he says. He still gets that on Twitter: Billy Porter is too much! He doesn't take the bait.

David Starr Returns to Swallow Hill's Tuft Theatre

David Starr returns to Swallow Hill Music on October 22 with new music!

Colorado-based Americana artist David Starr is proud to announce Touchstones. The new project from Starr will feature a new digital single release every month for one year. The first nine singles, “Every Kind of People” (Robert Palmer), “Gotta Serve Somebody” (Bob Dylan), “These Days” (Jackson Browne), “Someone Like You” (Van Morrison), “I’ve Got To Use My Imagination” (Gladys Knight), “Angel From Montgomery” (John Prine), “Drive” (The Cars), “Cabo San Lucas,” and “Magnolia” (Poco) are available across digital platforms now.

During a year where COVID-19 stopped the world in its tracks, Starr took time to reflect on and experience anew the music that shaped his own. Many of the songs he chose to record he describes as "musical comfort food".

“Some of the songs I cover were lyrically inspiring,” explains Starr. “Some were songs I’d played in bands over the years. Some just felt good to sing and play. Others brought back fond memories or a kind of familiar melancholy.”

Touchstones was produced by David Starr and Mark Prentice, with co-production by David Kalmusky. All of the songs were recorded, mixed, and mastered at Addiction Sound Studios in Nashville by David Kalmusky along with Ethan Barrette and Alberto Sewald.

"Every Kinda People" features John Oates (Hall & Oates) and Michelle Prentice on background vocals, Mark Prentice on bass and keyboards, Dan Dugmore on acoustic guitar, John Prentice on electric guitar, and Matt Bubel on drums. The accompanying music video was directed by Jason Denton of Solar Cabin Studios.

“We gotta heal and work together right now,” says Starr on the message behind the song. “This year has brought out the best and worst in us. Time to look hard in the mirror. It takes us all to make it work.”
