New MAP Report: Opponents are Enshrining Inequality and Expediting Discrimination Against LGBTQ People

The legal landscape for LGBTQ people remains a patchwork of protections at the state and federal level. The 2020 U.S. Supreme Court decision in the Bostock case improved federal protections against anti-LGBTQ discrimination and the Biden administration has articulated additional protections; however, opponents of LGBTQ equality continue seeking new ways to roll back protections.

MAP's new Under Fire report, "Enshrining Inequality for LGBTQ People", outlines four tactics that opponents are utilizing to make discrimination against LGBTQ people legal by carving holes into existing laws at every level of government and codifying the ability to discriminate.

Human Rights Campaign Foundation in Association with Partners Beeline Productions & Shady Gang Announce, “The Equality Ball,” A Celebration of Black, Queer Culture

Human Rights Campaign Foundation, the educational arm of the nation’s largest LGBTQ+ civil rights organization, presents The Equality Ball, in association with Beeline Productions and the Shady Gang, with support from BeyGOOD Foundation—bringing authentic ballroom culture to Las Vegas directly from the source. The  Equality  Ball  will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada, on August 27, 2023, at the Palms Casino Resort, and to celebrate and uplift the beauty of Black and Brown, queer joy.

Ballroom culture is a progressive and innovative community that was founded by queer people of color, particularly Black and Brown transgender pageant performers. The Equality Ball is a friendly competition that creates a safe space for individuals to showcase their ability to artistically express themselves. An event in celebration of expression and inclusion while showcasing fashion, style, pose, poise, grace and various forms of artistic abilities. The ball will be highlighting the legendary House of Basquiat and the newly founded KiKi house of FUBU as well as professional choreographers and dancers in the community.

“Ballroom culture is synonymous with the Black queer community—it creates a safe space for LGBTQ+ people at a time when being your authentic self was dangerous. But, let’s not get confused, it’s still dangerous for us—Black and Brown trans women are facing an epidemic of fatal violence, and just within the past week, O’Shea Sibley, a Black queer man, was brutally murdered for vogueing. The  Equality  Ball serves as another space for those who feel overlooked to take center stage and let the world know that—as Beyoncé sings—you won’t break our souls,”  said Human Rights Campaign President, Kelly Robinson. “There is hate out there, but nothing can break our souls. We see the community’s resilience in our own programs—in the leadership of advocates who work in our Trans Justice Initiative, in the unlimited potential that shines through students in our HBCU program, and in the work we do with Black and Brown leaders advancing health equity, inclusive workplaces and schools free of bullying and bias. Despite the challenges facing our community, we continue to celebrate this renaissance of freedom and self-love and honor the Black and Brown, queer and transgender pioneers who paved the way for us to live our best lives.”

The Human Rights Campaign Foundation unequivocally stands with Black and Brown queer leadership, without exception. The  Equality  Ball will be offering numerous resources and services to the community members in attendance including, HIV testing, voter registration and direct access to information about local LGBTQ+ programs and initiatives. These critical services align with the HRC Foundation’s commitment with racial equity and programs that are committed to using a racial equity lens to directly serve  and improve the lives of Black and Brown queer communities.

BeyGOOD Foundation, the public charity founded by Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, is honored to make a contribution in support of these needed services for the community.

Human Rights Campaign President, Kelley Robinson, will be attending the The Equality Ball, which is being spearheaded by Executive Producers Lena Giroux Zakalik, Carlos Irizarry, and Stephanie “Packrat” Whitfield -- all prominent professional dancers and choreographers for high-profile artists in the entertainment industry. The Shady Gang (Carlos and Packrat, both queer artists of color) will be co-directing the ball and together have over 20+ years of experience in the ballroom community and have organized Balls in Ballroom culture for years. They have worked for artists such as Madonna, Sam Smith, Ariana Grande, Estelle, Ashlee Simpson, Camilla Cabello, Calvin Harris, and many more. They also appeared on the hit show Legendary on HBOMax. Creator & Director Lena Giroux Zakalik, is BIPOC, CEO of Beeline Productions, a woman-owned production company in Las Vegas, which is extremely rare. She is a veteran in the entertainment industry who has danced for artists such as Janet Jackson, Christina Aguilera, Amerie, Outkast, Chaka Khan and Cher. Her choreography credits range from Disney’s "The Cheetah Girls" national tours to assisting choreographer for the PussyCat Dolls (PCD’s) MTV award winning video “Buttons.”

EPA offers Colorado $531K for Stormwater Collection, Sewer System Upgrades

Today, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced $531,000 in Sewer Overflow and Stormwater Reuse Municipal Grant program funding to help Colorado communities address stormwater and sewer infrastructure needs.

States may now apply for grant assistance to fund projects that will help municipalities strengthen their wastewater and stormwater collection systems against increasingly intense rain events and prevent contaminants from polluting waterways. Thanks to program updates made by the Biden-Harris Administration’s Investing in America Agenda, the Sewer Overflow and Stormwater Reuse Municipal Grant program will ensure small and financially distressed communities receive grant assistance at no cost.

“Heavy rainfall can flood communities, overload facilities that collect and treat wastewater and contaminate our waterways with sewage and pollution,” said KC Becker, EPA Regional Administrator. “With $531,000 in grant funding, EPA is helping Colorado address the threat of stormwater inundation in communities that need it most.”

Stormwater management is a complex environmental challenge for communities across the country. The costs to construct, operate and maintain stormwater infrastructure can be significant. This investment follows changes made by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to prioritize projects for small and/or financially distressed communities and prevents cost share requirements from being passed on to these communities.

This funding for Colorado is part of the $50 million in grants that EPA made available nationally. Learn more about the Sewer Overflow and Stormwater Reuse Municipal Grant program.

That Chick Angel Empowers with the "One Margarita (Margarita Song) (Saucy Remix)" feat. Terri Joe, Saucy Santana & Cindy Crawford Cameo!

Get ready to groove and feel empowered because today, the talented actress, comedian, and host That Chick Angel, also known as Angel Laketa Moore, is sharing her latest creation - "One Margarita (Margarita Song) (Saucy Remix)" featuring Saucy Santana, accompanied by an eye-catching music video with a special cameo appearance by supermodel Cindy Crawford.

The inspiration behind "One Margarita (Margarita Song)" is rooted in a powerful response from Angel to a slut-shaming sermon by an Evangelical Christian pastor, known as Sister Cindy, on TikTok. Instead of letting the negativity bring her down, Angel decided to transform the message into one of empowerment and embracing one's sexuality. With the help of producers Carl Dixon (Casa Di) and Steve Terrell, the catchy and upbeat "One Margarita (Margarita Song)" was born. The song has been an overwhelming success, amassing over 8 million streams and inspiring countless lip-sync videos. Not to mention, it has gained the attention and support of popular artists like Cardi B and Lizzo. Angel is proud to see her content resonating with a diverse audience, proving that her message of empowerment transcends boundaries.

But that's not all - Angel takes the message of empowerment to a whole new level with the "One Margarita (Margarita Song) (Saucy Remix)." Saucy Santana, known for his sassy and captivating rap style, adds his own incandescent touch to the song, ensuring that summer clubgoers will be hitting the dance floor in no time. His verse exudes confidence as he confidently raps about living life to the fullest and embracing one's sexuality without shame.

The music video for the "Saucy Remix" features a fabulous cameo appearance by none other than Cindy Crawford herself. She kicks off the video by recreating her iconic '90s Pepsi commercial, with a fun twist of replacing the beverage with a Casamigos margarita. Cindy's presence adds a touch of glamour and support to Angel and Saucy's message - hot girl summer is here to stay, and everyone should embrace their true selves without apology.

Directed by Jake Wilson, known for his work with artists like Lizzo, Latto, and Ava Max, the music video showcases That Chick Angel in a dazzling gold glitter outfit and Saucy Santana rocking an ice-blue leather corset as they party and celebrate life at Silver Lake's El Cid restaurant. The video also includes cameos from the "One Margarita (Margarita Song)" producers, Casa Di and Steve Terrell, as bartenders enchanted by Cindy Crawford's presence, adding to the fun and energetic atmosphere.

The "One Margarita (Margarita Song) (Saucy Remix)" is a celebration of self-expression, empowerment, and embracing one's individuality. With a message this powerful, That Chick Angel is making her mark and showing the world that true confidence knows no bounds. So, let loose, dance along, and let the music inspire you to be unapologetically yourself this summer and beyond!
