Germany warns Russia over anti-gay draft legislation

Russian draft legislation that would outlaw "homosexual propaganda" violates the European human rights convention, and its passage would damage relations between Russia and Europe, German officials say

German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle (pictured), who is openly gay, reportedly relayed this sentiment to the Russian ambassador in Berlin. The legislation, aimed at curbing promotion of homosexuality among minors, passed an initial vote in the Russian parliament last week and is set for a second reading in the spring.
