Here TV celebrates its 10th year of broadcast in the United
States. Throughout its first decade, Here TV followed its mission of
celebrating LGBT stories and providing a nationwide outlet for television and
film projects to have a platform and a voice. Here TV, the only television
outlet dedicated to LGBT filmmakers, artists, and performers showcasing their
work in its original, uncensored form, has never altered its mission around its
LGBT-specific programming. To launch its second decade, Here TV is proud to
announce the New Frontiers Film
Project, a call for newly completed film and television projects that
carve out new frontiers around the LGBT experience. The selected programming
will air throughout 2013 on Here TV across all its cable and Web platforms.
“We are eternally grateful
to the hard-working Here TV staffers over the past decade and numerous LGBT
writers, directors, actors, and producers who have helped grow and expand the
availability of LGBT film and television projects to a wider audience. We are
proud of the work Here TV has done in showcasing the work of LGBT filmmakers,
and we look forward to the next decade of bringing unapologetically gay
programming to audiences across the country and around the world,” said Paul Colichman, Here TV’s CEO, and Stephen P.
Jarchow, Here TV’s Chairman, in a joint statement.
From the beginning, Here
TV has been at the forefront of television viewing habits, starting as a
subscription video-on-demand service and evolving with the rapidly changing
television landscape. The channel now airs as a linear service in numerous markets,
continues to air as an SVOD service on all major U.S. cable systems, and has
partnered with online services including Hulu, YouTube, Amazon, iTunes, and
Blockbuster, among others.
“When we launched the
network, a purely LGBT network was met with great skepticism and tremendous
resistance. The television and film projects that have aired over the past
decade have all been part and parcel in entertaining and inspiring our LGBT
audiences and motivating our allies to help us change hearts and minds across
the country. We are eternally indebted to the LGBT creative community and to
the brave distributors who have partnered with us over the years to have our
stories seen and heard,” said Josh Rosenzweig,
Here TV’s Senior Vice President, Original Programming and Development.
After
10 successful years
of showcasing LGBT film and filmmakers, Here TV is now launching the New
Frontiers Film Project, opening up a submission window for creative LGBT
filmmakers to submit their completed film and television series projects
for
consideration. Here TV executives will review the entries and choose
select
projects to air on the network throughout 2013. Filmmakers interested in
making
submissions can either send DVDs to New Frontiers c/o Here TV, 120 West
45th Street, Suite 2300, New York, NY 10019 or send a link to NewFrontiers@heremedia.com.
