Riverdale Avenue Books Wins Three LGBT IPPY Awards

As the annual book awards season rolls in, the innovative hybrid publisher Riverdale Avenue Books is pleased to announce that three of their titles have received Independent Publisher Book Awards in LGBT categories in both fiction and nonfiction.

The Independent Publisher Book Awards, affectionately called the IPPY Awards, has identified a reading list of progressive, thought-provoking books, the kind that can touch lives, advance careers, and stretch our imaginations. "Recognizing Excellence in Independent Publishing," the IPPY Awards showcase the best books from throughout North America and the English-speaking world. Launched as the first unaffiliated awards program open exclusively to independent, university, and self-published titles.

The honorees will receive gold, silver, and bronze medals in different categories. The books from Riverdale Avenue Books that will be receiving awards include: 
     Gay/Lesbian/Bi/Trans Non-Fiction Gold Medal - Outside the XY: Queer Black and Brown Masculinity Edited by Morgan Mann Willis
      Gay/Lesbian/Bi/Trans Non-Fiction Silver Medal - Queering Sexual Violence: Radical Voices from Within the Anti-Violence Movement Edited by Jennifer Patterson
     LGBT Fiction Silver Medal-  Juliet Takes a Breath by Gabby Rivera

“We are honored to receive these awards for the ground-breaking books we publish in the LGBT space,” said Publisher Lori Perkins.  “Our authors are some of the leading writers in this field and we are so proud to have their voices heard and recognized.”

The presentation the 21st Annual IPPY Awards will take place in New York City at the Copacabana (268 W 47th St) on Tuesday, May 30th, from 6:00-9:30 pm. The event occurs on the eve of BookExpo America and its return to New York City.
