Independent dance/pop artist Joey Suarez has topped 200,000 streams on Spotify propelled by the release of his new EP Candy Kid. Suarez launched a fan-driven campaign to choose the EP’s single and “Dancing By Myself” was the clear winner, having reached over 10,000 streams in less than two weeks.
“’Dancing by Myself’ is very self-descriptive,” mentions Suarez. “It portrays the feeling of being alone at a club, content with the idea that you are now alone. I hope it relates to fans who've been in very long relationships and are experiencing independency for the first time. The song grows and changes a lot like our emotions do when we are heart broken. This song is my heartbreak.”
Candy Kid has been generating positive reviews from fans as well as media: ”There is a lot of variety on this EP, and one can really hear his heart and vulnerability as a recording artist. It is recommended for fans of old school electronic music and contemporary electro pop music, since it is blend of both genres, and it works well," Markos Papadatos, Digital Journal
Suarez is also an accomplished dancer, model, actor and spokesperson for Ravers Fantasy, a clothing line targeting fans of electronic dance music.

A Poet's Proclamation
Spoken word artist Andrea Gibsons poem 'Your Life' is a proclamation of taking ownership of ones own queerness as a badge of honor rather than shame. And its making waves with the non-binary poets social media audience with individuals posting glowing praise like thank you for expanding my world, that the poem takes my breath away, and the just plainly stated your work is so important.
In a performance for OUT taped at Brooklyn queer nightlife staple The Dreamhouse, Andrea uses their award-winning talents to prove that sometimes all you need to move people is a precise way with words and the heartfelt courage & conviction to share your vulnerable sides.
Andrea's upcoming album HEY GALAXY is out January 12th. Propelled to the forefront of the national poetry scene in 2008 after winning the first-ever Woman of the World Poetry Slam, Gibson is the author to three collections of poetry, five previous albums, and is currently working on an illustrated collection of their most memorable quotes for Penguin/Plume due in 2018.

Australia Votes in Favor of Marriage Equality in Nonbinding Postal Survey
The Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) civil rights organization, hailed the recent outcome of Australia’s Marriage Law Postal Survey, where results show that 61.6 percent of Australian voters who participated in the survey endorse marriage equality. Since the results of the postal survey are non-binding, it is now up to Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull’s government and the Australian Parliament to enact legislation ensuring marriage equality becomes a reality.
“We congratulate Australia’s LGBTQ advocates and allies who worked so hard to ensure a victory in this postal survey,” said Ty Cobb, director of HRC Global. “It’s crucial that loving, committed same-sex couples in Australia have the same rights and protections that come with marriage. We urge the Australian Parliament to take swift action ensuring marriage equality becomes the law of the land.”
The voluntary postal survey was held between September 12 and November 7, with the results announced today. The postal survey came after years of stalled efforts to bring marriage equality to Australia. After the country’s governing party refused to allow a conscience vote on the issue in parliament, it took the controversial step to introduce this expensive, voluntary postal survey in an attempt to settle the issue. The survey was widely criticized for once again delaying the arrival of marriage equality, but today’s results are clear proof that the majority of Australians want marriage equality to become the law of the land.
HRC is proud to support the efforts of Australian LGBTQ advocates and allies to achieve marriage equality in their country and has partnered with Australian Marriage Equality (AME) — a prominent national organization leading on the issue. HRC Global visited Australia in 2015 and 2016 to share strategic advice from the successful campaign for marriage equality here in the U.S.

Victory Fund Endorses Nine Congressional Candidates; Wins Can Secure Pro-LGBTQ Majority in House
Today Victory Fund, the only national organization dedicated to electing LGBTQ leaders to public office, endorsed nine candidates in their races for Congress – five of them non-incumbents that could move the balance of the U.S. House toward a pro-LGBTQ majority. An unprecedented number of LGBTQ candidates are running for Congress in 2018, with the potential to triple the number of LGBTQ members of Congress next year.
The non-incumbents endorsed today are:
Lauren Baer (FL-18)
Angie Craig (MN-2)
Albuquerque City Councilor Pat Davis (NM-1)
Gina Ortiz Jones (TX-23)
Florida state Representative David Richardson (FL-26)
Incumbent endorsements include: Rep. David Cicilline (RI-1), Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney (NY-18), Rep. Mark Pocan (WI-2) and Mark Takano (CA-41).
“Our slate of LGBTQ Congressional candidates may determine whether the 116th Congress has a pro-equality majority, or whether it continues to be an adversary for our community,” said Aisha C. Moodie-Mills, President & CEO of Victory Fund. “An unprecedented number of LGBTQ candidates are running for the U.S. House this year – providing an opportunity to triple our representation in Congress and ensure our voices are included in the legislative process.
“Our sitting LGBTQ members of Congress are consistently the community’s biggest champions, whether pushing for non-discrimination legislation, defending our trans service members or ensuring their colleagues remember the victims at Pulse,” continued Moodie-Mills. “That is why we are thrilled to announce our first Congressional endorsements of the 2018 cycle – nine LGBTQ candidates who are determined to win and push forward equality – including five LGBTQ leaders who can pickup new seats for our community. Victory Fund will continue to endorse viable, constituent-focused LGBTQ Congressional candidates in the coming months, so we can secure a pro-equality majority in 2018.”
Moodie-Mills also released individual statements about Victory Fund endorsements for the non-incumbent Congressional candidates: Lauren Baer, Angie Craig, Albuquerque City Councilor Pat Davis, Gina Ortiz Jones, and Florida state Representative David Richardson.
Since 1991, Victory Fund has helped thousands of openly LGBTQ candidates win local, state and federal elections.

The Gay Vegans: Danica Roem Is A Rock Star
By Dan Hanley
With the elections on November 7th, Danica Roem became front page news.
What I love most about her is that she took on someone who spent his life demonizing people like her, and taking away rights from people like her. She had had enough when he decided that he should control where she could or could not use the bathroom. Although I do not know her, she comes across as someone who is kind, very intelligent, and one who cares about other people.
I remember reading about her months before election day and thinking how wonderful it would be if she could win. I sure didn’t think she could at that time.
Her opponent had held his seat for over 20 years. He continued his bigoted ways throughout the campaign.
Danica rocked her campaign. She actually knocked on doors and spent hundreds of hours speaking with voters about issues important to them.
I could go on and on. I will leave you with a couple of points:
Danica Roem was pissed off and took action.
So did others in Virginia and around the country.
In one state delegate race in Newport News, VA, over 10,000 more people voted than two years ago and the difference between the two candidates is 12 votes.
Register to vote. Vote. Get active. Run for office.
