Is Obama out of touch with gay rights?

The lack of movement by the Obama administration on key campaign pledges for LGBT rights, including ending the military ban and repealing the federal marriage ban, is raising concerns among many advocates. "Obama is out of step with his party, which is overwhelmingly in favor of marriage at this stage," said veteran activist David Mixner. "He's out of step with the next generation."

Meanwhile, the Washington Post's Jonathan Capehart is calling on President Barack Obama to re-assert his commitment to LGBT rights by delivering a major speech on the subject timed to this month's 40th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots. "Stating clearly that gays and lesbians should and will be able to claim full title to the American Dream, and all its promise, could go a long way," Capehart writes.
