Trans woman assaulted in Trinidad

A violent assault on a trans woman in Trinidad, Colorado, site of a clinic where about 150 people undergo gender-reassignment surgery each year, has surprised some residents of the town.

"It just doesn't happen here," said Dr. Marci Bowers (pictured), who helms the clinic. "And that's not to say that we're not a bunch of rednecks and truck drivers and oil field workers. But there's just a respect and a tolerance for this population that's unique."
