Out candidates for political office and how to become one

Out Houston Controller Annise Parker is the front-runner in a field of four mayoral wannabes, although more than two out of three voters say they are undecided about their choice for the Nov. 3 election, a poll for KHOU-TV and KUHF-FM has found. Parker is vying to become the first out elected mayor of one of the nation's 10 biggest cities.

And in California Anthony Woods (pictured), a 29-year-old out veteran of the Iraq war, was among 15 candidates on the ballot in a special election last week for the U.S. House seat formerly held by Ellen Tauscher, D-Calif., who has taken a job with the State Department. Woods.
