GLBT Historical Society announced Castro Street move

The GLBT Historical Society has signed a lease on a new property in the Castro on 18th St., which they will use to exhibit items from their extensive historical archives.  This organization used a vacant storefront at 18th and Castro in 2009 with great success, enabling visitors and residents to share in our rich and diverse history.

One reception there was hosted by Jose Sarria, the first openly gay candidate for public office in the United States more than 40 years ago and the founder of the International Court System.

Opening during the summer, a rotating display of historical artifacts will include early gay publications, Harvey Milk memorabilia, gay bar souvenirs, political treatises, significant clothing and costumes and rarely seen photographs.
