Denver PrideFest 2010: Carnaval Latino

The Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Community Center of Colorado (The Center) is pleased to announce the lineup for the Latino Stage at Denver PrideFest at Civic Center Park on June 19 and 20.

The theme of this year's stage is Carnaval Latino, symbolizing the fun and diverse nature of the mix of entertainers comprising the 2010 lineup.
The stage, at the corner of Colfax and Bannock, will feature DJs, mariachi singers, a rock band from Juarez, Mexico, samba dances, folklore dances, drag queens and more.
Highlights of the Latino Stage over the two-day festival include mariachi singer Antonio Reyna from New Mexico, popular local singer Pedro Palafox and a live mariachi band, rock band Grupo Astra from Juarez, local theater group Obra Teatro UNO, La Colombiana Divas Show (drag), Danzas de los Chilenos (folk dance), and one of Denver's premier drag queen divas, Mariah.
"The stage is organized by the Latino community and highlights not only local talent, but also diverse entertainers from as far away as Mexico," said Center Executive Director Carlos Martinez. "Many of the entertainers are straight. That speaks to the reputation of Denver PrideFest, but also dispels the notion that the Latino community is homophobic."
The Center worked with several Latino leaders and organizations to produce the Latino Stage this year, including Unidos N Orgullo (UNO) -- United in Pride -- a new local Latino LGBT organization that promotes the health and well-being of its community.
