Top soccer official condemned for remarks about gay fans

Sepp Blatter, president of FIFA (pictured), the world soccer governing body, was roundly criticized by gay rights activists this week after comments he made about gay fans who may attend the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where homosexual activity is illegal.

Blatter suggested, perhaps jokingly, that gay fans should abstain from sex while visiting Qatar, but LGBT groups and activists across Europe responded that the criminalization of homosexuality was not a laughing matter.
