Openly gay Colorado State Sen. Pat Steadman is pushing ahead again this year in an effort to
pass a civil unions bill. The measure was passed out of the Senate Judiciary Committee last
week on a 5-2 vote, but faces an uncertain future in the Colorado House of Representatives.
“If this bill passes, I will avail myself of it. I am a member of the class of unmarried persons
who are eligible for this relationship, and it is one that I would seek,” Steadman told his Senate
colleagues at the committee hearing.
