The Denver ELEMENT Welcomes New Staff, Cody and Liam

The Denver ELEMENT is very excited to welcome two new members to our family. Cody Shafer is our new Positive Impact Program Coordinator. And Liam Burghardt joins our team as the Touch Team Assistant Coordinator.

Cody (left) is a recent transplant to Denver from Iowa City, Iowa where he attended the University of Iowa studying Political Science and Anthropology. He has been working in the HIV Prevention field since 2008 with the Mpowerment Program; first as a peer coordinator and then as the project coordinator. Aside from health promotion, Cody is passionate about hiking, camping, visual art, theater, live music, dancing, and political activism. He is excited to join the ELEMENT team and get involved with the local LGBT community in Denver. As Program Coordinator for Positive Impact, Cody will be facilitating interactive and educational group activities for HIV+ gay/bi men coping with or with a history of IV drug use. Cody can be reached at 720.382.5900 or cody@thedenverelement.com.

Liam (left) recently graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder with dual degrees in Biochemistry and Molecular, Cellular, Developmental Biology in the spring of 2010. He began his work in HIV prevention and health care as a volunteer at the Colorado AIDS Project while in high school. These days he works with University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus linking volunteers to HIV related medical research studies. In his role as Touch Team Assistant Coordinator, Liam will be assisting in Touch Team trainings for new volunteers, conducting outreach events with volunteers at local gay bars, and working with our Touch Team members to share HIV prevention and risk reduction information with their friends and social networks. In his spare time, he enjoys going to the movies, seeing his friends, and doing renovations on his house. Liam can be reached at liam@thedenverelement.com

So give a friendly Denver welcome to both Cody and Liam of The Denver ELEMENT team ... and be sure to say "Hi" when you see them out and about. Both are partial to hugs!
