Family Band, the collaboration between visual-artist-turned-singer Kim Krans and her husband, onetime heavy-metal guitarist Jonny Ollsin (Children, S.T.R.E.E.T.S.), have created a video for Grace & Lies' "Night Song. The video is directed, drawn and performed by Kim, who is already well regarded for her artwork, illustrations, and beyond which she sells via The Wild Unknown.
In
the "Night Song" video, Kim's black and white drawings project over her
face, creating a wild and strange cast of characters, narratives, and
sentiments. The imagery flashes to the sampled beat, making a range of
optical effects and afterimages. Kim describes the process of making the
video, "I usually make extremely detailed and refined drawings, so
making these sort of stupid, crude images was such a release for me. The
narrative started to take a weird dark turn... and I just went with
it." The result is a creepy, funny, and entrancing video showcasing the
mysterious and stoic vibe of "Night Song" and Family Band's overall
aesthetic sensibilities and talents.
