Casting Call: Miracle on 34th Street

The Arvada Center will hold auditions for the musical, Miracle on 34^th Street at the Arvada Center, 6901 Wadsworth Blvd., July 26 and 27; and in New York City, August 6-8. Gavin Mayer will direct Miracle on 34th Street with musical direction by David Nehls and musical staging by Piper Arpan. The Arvada Center Artistic Producer is Rod A. Lansberry.

Denver auditions are July 26 and 27, from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., by appointment only. Call the Arvada Center at 720-898-7200 to schedule a time. With the exception of the children roles required in the script, actors must be 18 years & older to audition. The roles for three boys and three girls (including the role of Susan) between the ages of 6 – 12, will be auditioned in Denver on Tuesday August 14, from 3 – 5:00 p.m.

Experienced performers with strong acting and singing abilities are needed. Strong movement abilities are required.  See the character breakdown (below) for specifics on available roles. Actors should prepare 16-32 bars from a song appropriate to the style of show. Please bring sheet music; an accompanist will be provided. Recorded music or a cappella audition will eliminate casting consideration. A current headshot and résumé are required. Equity members must have a current equity ID card.

This is an Equity LORT B production, non-equity actors will be considered. Individuals of all ethnic and cultural backgrounds including a wide range of ages, physiques are needed and encouraged to audition for all roles.

Rehearsals for Miracle on 34^th Street begin on November 6, 2012. The show opens on November 27 and runs through December 23. Performances are Tuesday through Saturday evenings with matinees on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays for a total of eight shows per week.

Character Breakdown:

DORIS WALKER	A very sharp young career-woman and free thinker, divorced, hard-working, cynical Belter (age 30-40)
FRED GAILY	Military Captain, handsome, smart, hopeful and warm. Mustering out into civilian life. Baritone (age 35-45)
JUDGE MARTIN GROUP	Of the N.Y. State Supreme Court  (age 40-50)
KRIS KRINGLE	The real McCoy. The classic conception of Santa Claus (age 50+)
MARVIN SHELLHAMMER	An aggressive but somewhat bungling junior executive. Baritone (age 25-30)
MR. SAWYER	The store psychologist, shady (age 35-45)
R. H. MACY	The boss (age 50+)
SUSAN	Doris' Daughter. Precocious, self-sufficient city girl 6 years old (age 6-10) – dance experience preferable
TAMMANY O'HALLORAN	A political boss. Tenor (age 40-50)
THOMAS MARA, SR. Other roles include Governor, Mayor, Marine Buddies of Fred, Secretaries, Various Macy’s Employees, Mr. Gimbel, Mailman, Housekeeper, a Clown, a Nurse, Shoppers and various Ensembles.
