Vail Soul Music Fest 2012

The Vail Soul Music Fest 2012, in partnership with McDonald’s is proud to offer the Vail Soul Youth Day Music and Mentoring Program on August 18, 2012. For one soul-filled day, more than 100 multi-cultural and under-served youth from Metro Denver and Summit County travel to the mountains of Vail to participate in the Vail Soul Youth Day Music and Mentoring Program, designed to promote social responsibility, self-esteem and cultural awareness.

Celebrating its third year, Vail Soul Music Fest’s Youth Day Program creates the space for middle school students and high school freshmen to explore the history and power of soul music through interactive, hands-on workshops. Working in collaboration with fellow students and adult artist mentors, students will create original works of poetry, spoken word and performance while enjoying a full day in the splendor of Colorado’s mountains. Vail Resort’s Eagle’s Nest atop the mountain will play host to Youth Day events.

McDonald’s is a proud partner in the 2012 Vail Soul Music Fest and the Vail Soul Youth Day Music and Mentoring Program. McDonald’s is pleased to bring music-inspired themes to several workshops, provide delicious breakfast and dinner for all Youth and Mentors and donate backpacks for every participating youth. McDonald’s will also sample a McCafe Blended Ice drink at the festival and provide Premium Roast Coffee in the VIP area for both evenings.

“McDonald’s of Colorado is pleased to again partner with the 2012 Vail Soul Music Festival to further demonstrate our commitment to the Colorado community and support culture awareness in our youth,” said Geta Asfaw, local McDonald’s Owner/operator. “Our local owners believe wholeheartedly in the importance of educating our youth and through initiatives like Youth Day Music and Mentoring Program, we can together bring new opportunities and experiences for our great state’s leaders of tomorrow.”

This year’s Vail Soul Youth Day theme is the “Rebirth of Genius,” with workshops from the frontlines of Denver’s music culture, including local artists Su and Jodel Charles, emcee and hip-hop rapper DJ Cavem and Kent Denver band instructor, Steve Holley. 2012 Vail Soul Music Festival performers will also be invited to entertain and inspire.

“Soul music is the spirit. It’s a love. It’s a hurt. It’s a pain. It’s something that people want to feel and be connected to,” says mighty R&B singer Liv Warfield, who participated in Youth Day in 2010. “Artists have the responsibility to prep young people for their future,” she says. “These kids are our future.”
