Ignite Theatre opens its 2013 season with the Tony Award winning musical Cabaret.

Beginning April 12, 2013, Ignite Theatre will transform the Aurora Fox’s intimate Studio Theatre at 9900 E Colfax Avenue in Aurora into The Kit Kat Club, a 1930’s German nightclub of singer Sally Bowles, as the company mounts the Tony Award winning musical Cabaret.

Cabaret tells the story of Sally Bowles, a 19-year-old cabaret performer, and her relationship with American writer Cliff Bradshaw. The musical is set against the backdrop of 1930’s Berlin, as the Nazi party is rising to power in Germany. It features such well known songs as “Willkomen,” “Don’t Tell Mama,” and of course, “Cabaret”, written by the famed Broadway duo of composer John Kander and lyricist Fred Ebb, who also penned Chicago, Kiss of the Spider Woman, and Curtains. Cabaret won Tony Awards for Best Musical and Best Original Score in 1967.
