Majority of Americans Favor Ending Gay Scouting Ban
The
Boy Scouts of America announced last week it would delay action until
May on a proposal to drop its nationwide ban on openly gay scouts and
leaders. The organization recently said it would consider allowing local
councils to decide whether gays would be admitted, spurring religious
conservatives to condemn the proposed change and LGBT advocates to argue
that it doesn't go far enough. A recent poll found 55% of Americans favor ending the Scouts' gay ban, while 33% oppose the move.
